I've enjoyed QuiietJay's Zooliminology project since the first two videos, Golbo and Longlegs were published. I'm a big Golbo fan! When they recently uploaded the Orientation Video I was immediately excited to try and create within the parameters they'd set out for us.

Here are my friends and me as staff from Zooliminology, me being the green one. Customizing the suits was very fun, creating simplified yet identifiable representatives of my pals. The creature featured in this image can be found in the recent Prince video, which I thought was wonderful. If you're unfamiliar with the series, I highly recommend checking it out and watching it in order of upload.

This is a piece from a workshop at Arts University Plymouth. I used the photobash image from the workshop to make an illustration with textured brushes on a stock image of paper, leaning into the historical theming. To try and make the awkward feeling pose work (I had been given a base image that I had to use), I put a skateboard in his hand, adding a medieval-style hare to its underside, again keeping the historical theming.

I have seen in recent times people saying they will use generative AI tools to create images for them, either because they feel they can't draw, or to use as a reference for their drawing. I feel that this is a poor excuse when techniques like photobashing exist. You can really make a reference for almost anything you need with a little bit of thought, time, and care. And the reasoning of not being very good at it is, of course, a surface-level excuse; we're all not good at this without some practice. I'm really shabby at it, and that's fine, because I don't use it as my final piece, just for reference. If I needed/wanted to, I could spend some time getting better at this, learn from those who are good at the craft, just like any other skill. And so can you.

Lollipop Lesbians!

During the induction for my second year at Arts University Plymouth we were tasked with going and buying something for a pound then making something from it. Since I'm wanting to specialise it concept art and visual design, I spent the 3 hours we had on some 2D character art.

I adventured to Flying Tiger and found these two lollipops, 50p each, and was immediately inspired to make a couple composed of two people with very different styles. I started with the little drawing on the bottom left to get the idea out of my head, then progressed to the portraits. I’m not happy with the way the portrait of the gothic character turned out but I shan't be going back and changing it yet, I intend to use it as a point of reference for improvement. Once I had a first designs I moved on to creating the start of an illustration, focusing on colour and composition.

This little task was fun! Had this been a longer project I would have created variations of each character, whittling down ideas and elements into the best forms for what I wanted. Of course, with more time, the start of the illustration would have become a finished illustration. Perhaps next summer I could return to this and remake it with improved skills and more time.

Some hands in various poses for a clients project. We needed a relaxed hand, a little wrist showing, and clear nails that will eventually have paint dripping from them. Starting with the first image they chose the bottom left and wanted it flipped. We made a few variations in a similar position to experiment with a lifted wrist- they decided on the original flipped hand in the end.

A nice opportunity to test out some of the new brushes Procreate released recently. I like them a lot, still love my favourite Dry Brush from the original pack though. I almost want to figure out a way to export it and be able to use it on PC softwares like Krita or Photoshop!

Here's some ArtFight attacks I did back in July! I would've liked to share more with you sooner but I've been super busy.

Among other stuff, I just finished moving house! Very excited to not be living in a little box room, sharing a kitchen with strangers, anymore. University will be opening up again soon so I can share that work with you all :)

Posting these two together because they ended up quite similar, 3/4 of the body, simple textured background and a boarder.

The first is Baatar, NatanniaZDART's character, they have a variety of fantasy angel type characters! It wasn't until I uploaded the piece that I noticed I'd forgotten the detailed pattern on the dark hem of his clothes. Whoops! [@natanniazdart]

The second is Deane, Kaiairis' character, which they play in a D&D campaign I also play in. A very fun character with the DMs homebrew Tieflings all based off of sins- my character Kū is certainly not Deane's biggest fan but she's pretty cynical and jaded, perhaps they will get along better later in the story.

It took a bit of work to create the canvas and paper textures without everything turning out very pale, especially the Baatar piece.

I have one other image from ArtFight that I will share, involving two people's characters! Sadly, someone attacked me shortly before I began travelling away from home for a month, I was unable to get a piece done in time for them. They had an awesome character I'd like to make some art of anyway.

The first week of Doggust 2025!

I'm hoping to be able to post them daily on Twitter and Bluesky once I catch up. Been suuuper busy and barely at home lately so wanted to keep things simple for this art challenge.

Decided to go for a poodle-mix/doodle type dog for mutt since those are a very well known genre of mutt! Loved but also controversial dogs.

On a random note when I was looking at references for the Broholmer I kept feeling like their expressions reminded me of Markiplier lmaooo

Kūnopennos - ArtFight Reference

This is the other character I've shared on ArtFight this year. I didn't intend to have only shapeshifting characters, but it seems to have ended up that way! Kū is a shifter that I'm currently playing in my friend's homebrew D&D campaign, it's not set in a medieval fantasy, so they don't look as historical as Fryse. I drew inspiration for this outfit from a glamour piece I have in FFXIV.

Sucaria was born with a hole in their heart; she wouldn’t have made it past infancy if it weren’t for an inventive scientist named Scyvaris. This man was working with a highly unstable magic material known as Dwarven Copper. He is probably the only person who can work with this metal and not suffer immense consequences. As a side effect of having this Dwarven Copper in their heart, Kū became more animalistic, his ears becoming almost canine-like, and their hands/feet growing extra fur and sharp nails. 

They started going by Kūnopennos in adulthood as part of a secret identity. You can read more about them on my Patreon, for free!
