Last Friday was my birthday 😊 Thankful for another year of facilitating art spaces for others while slowly but surely getting back into rhythm with my own practice ✨ My dear friends took me to a lovely farm where I got to pick these flowers; later that day I had planned to do some t-shirt decorating with another group of pals, so I decided to immortalize this bouquet on a shirt 💐 To more inspiration and more community 🥰 #32

Akira Toriyama | 1955 - 2024
The first manga I ever read were my older brother's French copies of Dragon Ball Z. Even though Sailor Moon was always my first love, DBZ was the only other thing on Toonami to catch my eye. When the kids at school wanted to learn how to draw as good as me (I'd even go as far as to say this was the norm in most schools of my time), Goku was everyone's first trace. Little Black boys from DC to Accra would take a power stance and yell with all their might, in the hopes of going Super Saiyan, and there wasn't a single recess I'd go without hearing a passing "Kamehameha".
Akira Toriyama left and continues to leave an indelible mark on so many communities, especially the Black community, and as a late IWD post I also want to thank him for the plethora of female characters he was able to convey throughout DB and DBZ.
To all my fellow Bulma's out there, let us continue this work. There is always a new dragon to summon.
Rest in eternal Peace, Toriyama-dono.

It's officially Women's History Month AND it's almost International Women's Day!
Fun fact: I walked at Ottawa's first ball over the weekend and... got chopped for the first time 🥲 Despite everyone saying I had nothing to feel bad about and that these things just happen (and with some time and retrospect I've come to agree), it was utterly devastating TO ME because it felt like my chance was squandered and I know I can do more. And this week... I WILL! #fighting💪🏾
This Friday March 8th I will be co-facilitating a free commentator session with DJ mCherry (from the Haus of KFC) presented by Ballroom 4 Community as part of their Spring Break series, where we'll do some fun activities and share tips on basic commentating; happening from 6-8:30pm at La Serre Arts Vivants 🎤
Then, later that same evening, I'll be co-hosting Fizzique, a special DJ night for and by the girlypops, presented by my girl (and commentator battle buddy) Robocat KFC; happening at La Poubelle Magnifique from 11:30pm to 3am 😼
Mags Old Navy vs. Poppers Siriano (Dramatization, 2024) My most recent ballroom battle against @popperssiriano was one for the books so you know I had to recreate it!

Happy new year! We are BACK with a brand new #MagsMapsMTL, for the first time in over 3 years! With this first post-WordPress era entry, comes one of many life updates: I've entered the ballroom scene, and I'm in a house!
Back in August 2023 during MTL Pride, I attended my third ball (second one that year) with my friends. I have other friends who have been walking for quite a while now, and I'd occasionally get asked if I was also walking. With most of categories I've seen being in the realm of fashion, performance and physical attributes, I was looking at people mad funny like "I'm flattered but bffr, what I'm finna walk??". It wasn't until that night at the Pride ball that my friend Vince pointed out the category Commentator vs. Commentator, which was coming up. After they explained to me what it was I wrestled with the idea of going up for a few minutes... and then I did it. It was giving head empty just adrenaline. And not only did I not bomb, I made it to the final battle against my good sis Chivengi 🥹 Fast forward to December 2023 where I debut in the Iconic 2x Hall of Fame Royal House of Old Navy 😭🙏🏾
The Montreal Navies turn 4 this month, and have an exciting weekend planned at the start of February!
Find us hosting the upcoming edition of DISCOÑO, a local queer Latinx dance party, headlined my French phenom Lazy Flow, Feb. 2nd at Fairmount Theatre
Then, the next evening, Father Ali, Godfather Silver, and Rise Old Navy are putting on The Ultimate Crossover, a cartoon-meets-comics themed ball and the first kiki function of the year, Feb. 3rd at Ausgang Plaza
But before all that, get into the toon spirit at the next Drink n' Draw on Jan. 24th at Le Système, hosted by yours truly with Also Cool Magazine, with guest DJs Killjoy and Kiko Urban!
