Murmur on the Aquitaine (March 2020)

A side character currently in development who will work alongside my doctor Flatline. They were a romantic couple before the war and specialized in medical research and experimentation. Murmur is one of the first Cybertronians to create a Spark from assembled parts and Flatline was its first recipient. He was the one who perfected the design.

She left a half-million years with the Lines’ spaceship to help colonies through the war and the recovery period following it. The Aquitaine’s signal is recently detected by the Lines on Earth and is on a direct approach.

4 April 2020 Breath

Magicals wield incredible power, only the most well-attuned with themselves can demonstrate it with the most fleeting of breaths.

I feel I can do better, but I’m not quite there yet, a little more practice and more time. Wanted to challenge myself with things I’m not great with, like close-ups and smoke details. The hardest part of it all: shading the nose like I wanted. Had to just accept what I had when my attempts to redo it made things worse.

Retirement

I’ll never get around to coloring Xenos or cleaning him up, but I liked the pose.

I don’t see many depictions of Cybertronians using camouflage clothing, extra armors, or clothing in general (maybe Bayverse). Generally, everything is incorporated as part of their being, allowing constant protection while being compatible with their transformations. The characters we create come in all sizes and who is to say they can’t give it a try?

Here is Lightwave, a dear friend to my OC’s created by @AsthmaAdmiral (I don’t have a link for her yet, tbd). She doesn’t normally go for guerrilla detail, being a scientist at spark obsessed with cleanliness and organization. I love the look of big, roomy hoods and thought her fierce determination would shine brightly with it. The armor, admittedly, is filler, I put my effort into the hood.

In Magus Lay, enormous machines of the eras past enforced control of the world’s superpowers with their massive scope and size, harnessing the planet itself for its terrific weaponry. The Amnesia Age opted out for smaller, more compact designs to fit urban terrain and cut down on costs. There are plenty of reasons for having or deploying a MagiMech, generally to combat larger demons that normal munitions are incapable of breaching and for area control in an incursion or riot. Instead of drawing power from the planet like a glorified mechanical Magical puppet, it uses Source, an explosive fuel of mana and certain minerals.

As the demons get bigger, so do the mecha, and the past is rapidly catching back up to the modern age with its autonomous titans serving long-forgotten wars. Though I thought I could separate my ideas of Magus Lay from my experience in Transformers fandom (we make a lot of art, OC stuff), I find it’s given me great motivation to come up with stuff like this, to expand in a part of my story that I rarely go into out of fear that it is too far from the norm, despite being important to the beginning of the story of the Amnesia Age.

Mintfire, ghost of possession, with Frontline as guest. Mintfire is an OC of @logan-galaxsis, a deceased Cybertronian who searches for a host to befriend and possess. I’ve found a fascination with her because of her presentation from her creator, such a bouncy and perky personality without feeling overblown. Combine her being a ghost searching for a host with my character here, Frontline, who has a phobia of being remote controlled, but finds a fascination with Mintfire anyway, and it makes for an interesting dynamic

A crossover, Xenos ambushed by Adjutant, the monstrosity of cables. It was more experimentation with an inking technique I’ve been practicing with. I like the look, but it doesn’t translate well all the time. I don’t plan on making any actual crossover work (maybe in the future, for fun), but I don’t draw my Magus Lay characters enough and wanted an action pose.

Rose Palmer

A Secret Valentine’s gift for glitteryrose, one of three (link goes to her DeviantArt account)! A human in our Transformers Roleplay Discord server, was an absolute pleasure to illustrate. She wanted her human made with Optimus Prime, so I had to call in some help for a full scale from a friend. I can do headshots, but full body would’ve taken way too long.

So I’ve been missing for most of the year. I’ve been working hard in a Transformers RP server, developing a slough of OC’s and helping others with design and concepts. I hadn’t posted them because they do not pertain to Magus Lay and I just kind of haven’t put them on a blog specifically for them simply out of laziness. (I hate writing out tags).

In any case, here’s just a few highlights of my 2019. Enjoy!

Xenos Aurion Year 15 (Dec 18 2019) Experimenting with a new coloring technique, not good with shading yet. Xenos is the main character of this story, a complicated man who wears many hats and crowns and to make life easier for the world. His great powers come with great responsibility and the stress of saving the world and raising a family conflicts with his most common work: demon slaying.

Year 15 (Nov 2019)

This is a Demon Lord. They are greater demons of the Hellish Divine who rule the Eternal Sands with their Legion.

Demons are a common threat across the entire planet of Magus Lay. They can strike at any time in any capacity, their motives twisted from agony, anger, and hatred. Many were angels once, fallen from grace with their halos returned to the Empyrean as they were damned to the Eternal Sands.

Studies show that the greater the demon, the larger their crowns. Typically, they are grown or implanted (stolen from another) and represent their method of rule and sphere of influence. For a time, it was thought that the crowns acted as an antenna, spreading their thoughts through the ethereal to control their minions.

For the Divine Angelic, empathetic angels suspect that demons always desire to return to the Empyrean. Others believe they seek to create their own heaven, offer to their Legion what the Empyrean could not, and these carapace crowns are halos of their own design, gifted by no one, no strings attached. It is an admirable effort. Their plight may be better sympathized if fewer demons sought the destruction of all Magicality.

Year 15 (May 2019)

Drigga Aurion is the first daughter of the Aurion family, a reverse-engineered machine given life with magic. She is given a great amount of freedom when it comes to royal leadership over the kingdom. Despite her young age, created in Year 2, her mental capabilities demonstrate a mind older and wiser than her parents, Xenos and Pink Rose. 

Drigga focuses on creating her own children, attempting to decipher the secrets of Vault technology to create her own artificial intelligences. To date, she has made two: DINI, a helper AI who organizes military commands for the Temple Fortress, and Naverenne, a work-in-progress giant mechanical person. Otherwise, she is the first heir of the royal family and uses her power wisely.

Year 15 (May 2019)

I was still new to coloring and digital art when I made this, but I like how Pink Rose came out. She is the Chosen of Mana, working hard on creating a new image for herself after losing her Voice, an other-worldly power, in Year 9. Piety slowly eroded to self-dependence and strength from within. By Year 15, Pink Rose became obsessed with the concept of hydroponics and finds herself growing distant from her family as she spends the majority of her time in a private land.

Year 15 (October 2019)

A flat-color illustration of a Wall-Eye Demon. Not too uncommon in the more urban-like centers of Hell, a clear sign of higher intelligences and sophistication (and thus, a clearer threat) is jewelry adorned in any manner, bright colors meant to attract while being just off-color to cause disturbance.

This one is not a leader. Eyes show no focus, lazy tongue indicates it has succumbed to a rabid disease (no drool from dehydrated salivating glands). Having parts weaving through flesh is common enough, but open holes show it survives by other means than itself, either Legionization, machinery, or an advanced fungal possession.

Guardian Spirit of Wind

The Guardian Spirits are a delicate, yet powerful species of ethereal beings groomed and dedicated to protecting the Temples and Shrines of Magus Lay. These Temples protect the relic which gives Magicals their power. Each Spirit is unique to their element and is maintained by either resident priests or the Chosen of Mana.
