Book Project Participation:

For the book project, I was in charge of the team planning future mural designs and different project implementations at Lea moving forward. I was on the same team as Connie, Jannat and Mack. Jannat and Mack worked on the design aspect of this division while Connie and I brainstormed ways to implement other types of changes and specifically steps to remove language barriers between the students and between the students, parents and teachers.

Philly Painting in North Philly:

I loved the idea and inspiration of this project originating from the Favelas in Brazil. I definitely do appreciate that the members of the community had involvement and were given choices in terms of color palettes and placement. However, I think the effects of bureaucracy are evident in Philly Paintings. Since most of the building owners do not actually live in the area, it was visible that many of the buildings could  not be painted without the permission of the owners. Thus, the intensity of the same type of art and design in the favelas was not translated to this project. I also do wish that there would have been more of a continuation of this project beyond just the paint aspect of it, focusing more on community development and such.

I absolutely LOVED this mural. I do think it is mainly because I am very inclined to be attracted more towards abstract, almost animated-like art and typography, and this mural incorporates these things in it. I also do the location of these murals were extremely effective in a highly visible and heavy traffic area.

First visit to Lea! These are some of the cool images from the existing mural. Throughout the semester, we will be finishing the murals and adding on to them until the wrap around the entire length of the yard.
