No one goes looking for confidential information like that if they have something to lose. Like I said before, I’m more credible than you are, Bellamy. If anything I’m doing you a favor, spending all your time stuck in that lab was clearly making you crazy. What other kind of person chooses to attack an armed assailant for a few files? They do if they have something to gain. Are you really though? I mean this sounds like a rich kid problem, destroying property to get mommy and daddy’s attention. Especially since you clearly have temper problems. Observations? Is that what we’re calling it now. Whatever you need to tell yourself, Princess. This may be the only time you’ll ever hear me say this, O, but it’s not like that. It’s so entirely not like that I feel a little like I might hurl even thinking about it. I kind of accidentally destroyed some research she had going on. Or August did. Either way, she’s going to travel with us to collect new data or something. I mostly agreed just because I couldn’t deal with her whining anymore. His research has a reputation for being a little unethical, so maybe he just knows how to get away with bending the rules. Well, those people don’t have an older brother who knows better to look out for them. Mom would probably leave you alone all the time without me around. Hell, she used to leave me all alone before you were born. Yeah, well, we might have to see about a longer leash with this whole traveling thing. I guess we’ll find out.

I don’t want to come off as ungrateful or anything, but are you always this much of a jerk? They would still trust my word over yours. Especially since I’m sure this wasn’t your first tango. I’ll feel more inclined not to tell your sister about what you did to me back in New Bark if you acted a little more cooperative. Don’t act like you know me, Bellamy. Because you don’t. [Clarke’s eyes widened with horror as soon as she knew he was going to cause problems for her. This definitely wasn’t what she had anticipated when she stayed late to finish her work- tossing her clipboard to the side, she furrowed her brows when he seemed to target her Pokedex specifically. How could he possibly know that she had concealed it inside of her coat? She made sure that it was safe and sound, but made a mental note in that moment that she couldn’t call on the authorities until she was sure that he wouldn’t attack.]

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” 

[She bit out at him, immediately swallowing her own words as she realized that he had targeted her Pokedex and not her. He wasn’t a criminal- the sheer nervousness radiating off of him made her sure of that. She could use that. The approach she had to take was something she wasn’t sure about, however. Deciding to appeal to his humanity while slowly inching toward the bag where her Pokeball was located, Clarke held both of her hands in the air.]

“Listen, I… my name’s Clarke. I don’t want any trouble, okay? There’s nothing you can find here that’s worth hurting me. I can tell that you aren’t a bad guy- whatever you need here, it’s not worth it. It’s not worth doing this.”

[Bellamy could feel his muscles tense as he listened to the girl - Clarke - talk. He wanted to believe she was right, that he wasn’t a bad guy for what he was doing - what he was about to do. It was all for Octavia after all. When it came down to it though, he wasn’t a good person. He was willing to deface himself for money, just like all the people of status he’d loathed in the world he hated. He clenched his jaw.]

“I hate to break it to you but you don’t know me. You don’t know what it’s like to be in my shoes. You don’t know about good or bad. You don’t know anything about the real world. You grew up privileged, just like the rest of the people in this stupid lab. You got your education handed to you, your lifestyle. If this is what it takes to better my life than so be it. I’m willing to get my hands a little dirty.”

[He narrowed his eyes at her in challenge.]

“So what’s it going to be, Princess? You going to call out a Pokemon so we can have a fair fight or are you just going to let me have this one?”

I would never. Believe me, I’m very grateful for them giving us the chance to hit the road and be trainers – which I’m going to be great at once I’ve either caught something else or evolved my current team, by the way. How long do you think that’s going to take? He can’t stay a Magikarp forever. Just because my favorite part of school was recess doesn’t mean that I’d completely hate all of it. You just haven’t found a way to catch my interest yet, that’s all. Babysitters are for babies, Bell. And wow, you’re not here? I didn’t notice. There wasn’t a distinct lack of someone hovering over me to tip me off.

Good. I’m sure that once you become Pokemon League champ or something they’ll be glad they invested in you too. I don’t think it should take too long. And, uh, we might have someone else to help us catch Pokemon as it turns out. There’s this girl, Clarke, and it kind of looks like she’s going to be traveling with us until further notice. Trust me, O, I’m about as interesting as teachers get. You find someone who can hold your attention for longer and I’ll glady accept defeat but my mythology tales are much better than most snooze fest professors around here. Definitely better than that crackpot Jaha. Babysitters are for all children who are alone in strange places without their appointed guardian. I don’t hover. I watch from a socially acceptable distance.

Fine. I will. Maybe you should let someone who can actually read a map be in charge. There’s enough circumstantial evidence to put you in a bad place. Are you really willing to risk that? I’ll get placed somewhere else, but you’ll be arrested. And where would that put Octavia? Also, I’m a scientist. Getting people coffee isn’t in my job description.

I’m perfectly capable of reading a map. I’m just choosing to ignore mine because it clearly pisses you off so much. Most of that circumstantial evidence we destroyed during our battle. But I’m not freaking risking it and you know it. I don’t really care what the hell happens to me, but I need to make sure O’s safe. And that means getting through this Arceus forsaken journey with you. Maybe not, but you were clearly a glorified intern for Jaha. All the other little lab rats were too hard at work to notice me, but you? Bored out of your mind and looking for a distraction. Well, you hit the jackpot. Well, you find that. In the meantime, we’ve got two routes between us and Violet City. And if you don’t want to walk, you’re more than welcome to stay behind. Princess, there were no cameras and you destroyed all the evidence I was there in our lovely Pokemon battle. You can turn me in, sure, but you’ll still get fired. You need me if you want to keep getting coffees for the brilliant Professor Jaha.

[Other than the fact that there was something painstakingly wrong with his story, Clarke decided to humor the strange man in here for a moment as she slowly stepped toward him so that she didn’t antagonize him any more than she had to without knowing how lethal he was. Narrowing her eyes at him, she stopped a few feet away from the stranger and tightened her grip on the Pokedex in her lab coat. He was definitely bad news, but was he dangerous?]

“Then you won’t have any problem providing me with a form of identification.”

[She waited for him to crack and turn himself in so that she could gauge how serious his motives for coming in here were. Eyeing the files on the table, she considered making a run for it and grabbing them just so that he wouldn’t be able to catch a glimpse of them. It was her job to make sure that this information stayed put, and it’d be her fault if this guy ruined this for her. Her pokeball was in her bag across the room- if she could get to it, she could kick this guy’s ass without wasting that much time.]

[Bellamy looked at the girl in front of him. She clearly wasn’t falling for this badly made up story and, shit, he wasn’t even supposed to be in this situation. His superiors has assured him they could make sure the office was clear at this time. Apparently they didn’t expect Little Miss Intern here to be running around and exhausting herself in the name of a good college recommendation letter. He looked at the Pokedex in her hand and realized there was only one way he was going to be quick enough to get it away from her. Bellamy plunged his hand into his pocket and pulled out his Pokeball, clicking the button and tossing it toward the girl.]

“Go Gus! Use Rock Throw on her Pokedex!”

[A stream of light burst out of the ball until his Geodude appeared, crying out at his enemy and flexing his arms angrily.]

“I am sorry about this, Princess. It wasn’t supposed to go down like this.”

I would have some by now, if we hadn’t picked just about the only town in the whole region without a Pokemart. I guess I could break the rules and try to catch a Pokemon in a net, but somehow I don’t think that would hold them as long as a Pokeball would. Are you ever going to tell me what you’re working on or are you just going to keep telling me you don’t want to bore me with the details forever? I never get into trouble, Bell. You’ve never left me alone long enough to get the chance, I doubt that’ll change anytime soon.

Ouch, you insulting my place of employment now, O? Don’t forget that this trip is paid for by Just a Souvenir Shop. They’re betting on us becoming world famous Pokemon trainers. They’re clearly going to lose money. I think our best bet is doing double battle and hoping Gus can weaken Pokemon enough for you to catch them. We just won’t be able to go after any water types until we do manage to catch something else. Nah, it’s too sciencey and boring for you. I mean, you’re already falling asleep during my history lessons unless they involve dueling. You’re alone right now, a choice which I very much regret but I don’t know anyone in New Bark so I couldn’t find a babysitter on such short notice.

[The past hour and a half had been torturous. Clarke was supposed to have left over an hour ago, but there was -of course- another crisis that Anya was having her tend to. It wasn’t like she could say no to her superior lest she report back to Professor Jaha - being fired on the spot and sent her back home to her mom definitely wasn’t in the cards for her. Clarke felt herself cringe at the prospect of going back home anytime soon, and resolved to just try to get the rest of this dumb information about the development on replicating Pokemon eggs done. It had failed again. Of course.]

[It was when she resolved to finally call it a day that she took the elevator downstairs, the temptation to just shrug her lab coat off onto the ground pretty powerful until she heard something. Clicking. Someone was there. Clarke checked around her for a gun or a taser or anything she could use to identify the person who seemed to be taking pictures before she just gave up and decided that unarmed confrontation was the best way to go about this. Shit. Warning bells went off in Clarke’s head as soon as she caught sight of what the intruder was looking at. Classified information. Sinclair kept those folders locked away- Clarke remembered that time she had gotten an earful from him after trying to catch a glimpse of it. Raven was the only person other than him who was allowed to even think about looking in that general vicinity.]

“Excuse me.”

[She gritted her teeth and placed her hand on her hips as she waited for the perpetrator to turn around so that she could identify him, her hand immediately reaching for the Pokedex in her pocket in case she needed to call the authorities. If the man was armed, she would need to think fast.]

“This is a restricted area. Please take a step back, hand your camera over, and wait until I’ve cleared you to leave.”

[Bellamy looked up to see a pretty blonde girl glowering down at him with her hands on her hips. Oh yeah, Princess there looked totally pissed. He saw her reaching for her pocket. He wasn’t sure if she was going to tase him or turn him in, either way he couldn’t afford to have that happen. He quickly sheathed his camera.]

“I’m sorry, there must be some understanding here. I was asked to photograph some of this research and send it to Jaha. They didn’t tell you?” [He furrowed his eyebrows and did his best to look genuinely confused.] “We’ve had a security breach apparently. Something about some thugs that call themselves Team Rocket trying to break in. Professor Jaha thinks it’s safer if he has the only copy of the research.” 

[He took a step backward slowly, showing her his empty hands to prove he meant no harm. That wasn’t necessarily true considering he had a gun tucked into the waste band of his pants, but she didn’t need to know that.]

Wait, Cherrygrove? I already told you that we need to get to Mt. Silver, Bellamy. It’s essential to my research that I recreate all of my findings there to make sure all of the data’s reliable when I piece it back together. It’s the least you could do for me after destroying most of my documentation of it.

We can’t get to Mt. Silver without defeating the Pokemon League, Princess. We’re not Jaha, we don’t have access to everything for being internationally renowned pains in the asses. Besides, I already promised O we’d head to Cherrygrove next. And I told you, the whole point of helping to recreate your stupid data is not to upset my sister.

He’s close to learning splash. Maybe. And I don’t know if you noticed but I do have this very helpful brother that I’m stuck with, maybe he’d lend me his Pokemon one day so I can go out and catch something. I don’t think they were just staring at us, they were staring at everyone that wasn’t from their town. Maybe they were confused about why we’d want to be there. I agree with you about getting out of Mahogany more, though. I really hope it’s a long time before we’re back.

Splash will still accomplish absolutely nothing. You’re going to need to find some better Pokemon if you want to be the best trainer that ever lived or whatever. I can’t keep having August defend your honor against Caterpies, little sis. It’s getting embarrassing. New Bark Town isn’t exactly a tourist attraction, no. It shouldn’t be long until I’ve finished my work here and we can get the hell out of dodge. Think you can stay out of trouble until then?

Right? There wasn’t even a gym! Not that I’m ready to battle one before I catch a better Pokemon – or at LEAST evolve this one! – but still, I could have gone in and watched, or done something other than smile and pretend not to notice everyone staring at us. Not surprised, though; I can see why they wouldn’t get a lot of tourists.

I don’t know how you plan on catching a better Pokemon. It’s not like Splashing it repeatedly will do anything, except maybe piss off your opponent until it kills the one Pokemon you currently have. People weren’t staring at us...Were they? I think you’re just being paranoid. Proof that you need to get out of Mahogany more.

[Getting into Jaha’s lab had been easy for Bellamy. His contacts in Team Rocket had assured him that he wouldn’t meet any resistance when he entered the building but he’d still been expecting for things to be a little bit more difficult. His key card had easily swiped him entry into the building though and no-one had even given him a second look in his stolen janitor’s uniform.]

[Bellamy slipped through the door to Jaha’s private lab, finding it completely empty. He closed the door behind him as quietly as possible, trying to get his bearings in the room. He looked around, trying to figure out where the files he’d been instructed to grab were. He spotted a desk by the window that seemed like it might be a good start. He pulled on the drawers, but they wouldn’t budge.] “Shit,” [He mumbled under his breath, trying to think of a good way to break into them without attracting unnecessary attention. ]

[He pulled a knife from his pocket, inserting it in the slit between the metal desk and the locked drawer. Bellamy wiggled it carefully until he heard a small popping sound. He pulled the drawer open quickly, grabbing the manila folders in there and opening them. Most of the language went right over his head, but he did see a few words: Mew, evolution, cloning unsuccessful. This must be it, he knew Team Rocket was trying to get a hold of legendary Pokemon. He closed the first file, laying it atop the desk as he delved into the second - pulling out his Pokegear and taking pictures to document the discoveries for Team Rocket.]
