My Art Process With  A New Medium...

So you know when you see some awesome artist using ink or gouache or any kind of new medium you’re not really familliar with and you look that shit like “Woah that’s amazing! I gotta try that..”

And then for a moment you motivate yourself by watching videos on youtube and screaming at the computer monitor “HOW CAN YOU DO THAT!??!?! YOU’RE LIKE 12!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?!?!?” And after yelling that you’re like:

Then you do a drawing which is something like this:

And you’re like

And then you look again at the 12 year old’s drawing with the same medium and it’s like: 

And then you’re like

And the voice in your head says

And then you’re like

And you know you’re an insecure jealous cunt instead of being happy for that 12 year old. Yeah you’re all like “I AM 30 WHY CANNOT I BE THAT GOOD LIFE IS UNFAIR!!!”

And then you look another vid and you’re like “I’M SURE I CAN DO THAT IT CAN’T BE THAT HARD!” and the whole shit starts all over again until you’ve mustered up the world’s biggest artblock and can’t do anything for a year cos you feel like an incompitent piece of shit who is too old to learn anything cos 12 year olds are better than you.  

Yep. This is the story of my art journey. Hi I’m 30 and super insecure and I hate everything cos I feel like I’m complete shit when it comes to inking.

Did some face studies from difficult angles. Difficult angle is difficult.

This painting was a long one to make. You'd think a watercolor painting was fast but nope. But I think it symbolises the painting a lot. This painting is about depression and how admirable the battle against it is. We should give it to ourselves that when we keep going and keep battling it instead of all the setbacks and heartships we become our own heroes. And it seems people don't acknowledge that nearly enough. And what really got me into making this watercolor painting was a certain quote that was in Dr. Who (and the whole episode it was in...) It went something like this: The Doctor: The shepherd’s boy says, “There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it. Every hundred years, a little bird comes. It sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.” You must think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a— {the wall breaks.} Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird. {The Doctor steps through a portal, and the water castle world then becomes his Confession Dial} This painting took ages to make. And there were many times I almost gave up on it. I felt I didn't have it in me to make it. But I did. And I kept on getting up and trying over and over again until it was finished. And I realised that's what I've done in my life lately. I keep falling down over and over again. Things can seem impossible. Sometimes even breathing seems like it's too much. But I keep breathing. I keep getting up. And I think that makes a hell of a bird. So if you're battling depression or anything else in your life. Give yourself a pat on the back because you've earned it. And you're awesome. Keep on keeping on little bird.
