A Court of Love and Waiting
Vivienne knew that voice. The sound of her best friend, the male she loved. She hadn’t heard that sound in fifty years. Hadn’t heard the soft lull outside of her dreams.
She was afraid to turn around. This was a trick her mind played, it had to be. He..he was with Amarantha. He was Under the Mountain, far away. She shook her, no he wasn’t here, it was like every other time she thought she heard it. She would just be heartbroken all over again. She shouldn’t-
Her heart fractured in her chest and she was turning before she could stop herself.
She was running. Running to him. To her High Lord, to her friend, to her love. He enveloped her in a hug and she pulled him down to her lips, her hands shook, touching his face.
She kissed him, his cheeks, his brow, his temple, his lips. She kissed him breathless and Cauldron she missed him, she loved him.
They were on their knees, hugging each other, trying to meld into one another.
“I love you.” She was breathless. “I loved you since forever.”
His glacier eyes lit up and his beautiful smile lit up the rest of his face. “I love you, Vivienne. I love you so much.”
She kissed him again. Slower this time, more tender, less frantic. She clung to him and sobbed. “I never thought I would see you again.”
He brushed back her tears and she did the same for him.
“Not a day, a second, went by,” he whispered, “That I didn’t miss you.”
She clasped his face and kissed him.
