(I saw the movie leaks and I was INSTANTLY thrusted back into ATLA hyperfixation and I wanted to give it a go at drawing one of my all time favorite characters because Toph's story is so wonderfully done and theres so much nuance that I HAD to draw em out. I always imagined Maiko’s reconciliation wouldn’t start with a grand confession or a dramatic kiss. It would start with small things. Shared conversations after long days. Seeking each other out without thinking about it. Trusting each other with worries they would tell no one else.

At some point, they would realize that they had quietly become a significant part of each other's lives again. Mai would already know when Zuko was carrying too much on his shoulders. Zuko would already know when something was bothering Mai despite her attempts to hide it. It’s not like they would actively try to get back together (or okay, maybe they would semi-consciously yearn for each other lol), but it would simply happen through countless small choices.

The realization would come later. Perhaps when someone casually referred to them as a couple, and neither of them immediately corrected it because they had already accepted it privately. Because somewhere along the way, they had stopped acting like exes and started acting like partners again. Their reconciliation is not a sudden decision but the natural result of months of friendship, teamwork and mutual support. By the time they officially reunite, it feels less like starting over and more like finally allowing their love to thrive again.

It will feel like they’ve finally come home to each other ❤️

I'm barely aware of the reboot(?) Happening but everybody's talking about atla again and you know what. Toph might be the 12 year old girl character of all time. She loves dirt and throwing rocks at people. She's sick of condescending patronizing bullshit controlling her (this is a sign of a good disabled character also). She's three ounces of whoop ass. She's probably a lesbian. Like this was huge for the 12 year old girl community

Not only does she love throwing rocks at people, she is quite possibly the greatest of all time at throwing rocks at people. World champion rock thrower. She regularly beats the shit out of grown ass men, specifically because they think she can't. She's everything

rewatching Avatar is so weird because Sokka is literally the only thing keeping them alive and fed. He constantly is like,

'guys we're out of supplies/ we need to stop/ we're attracting too much attention with the flying bison we should walk' etc.

Like in the ´The Storm' when they're completely out of money and supplies the one to get a job in hopes of making money (he never actually gets paid, the world hates him) is Sokka.

In 'The Waterbending Scroll,' it's Sokka who's concerned about their lack of supplies when Aang sends them in a wave down the river, and is making sure they're careful with their spendibg when in town shopping.

He's also seen to catch fish and gather nuts (I know more often than not he fails to catch things on screen but it's implied he's the one that does most of the hunting and gathering)

It's like- Aang totally would have starved to death or gotten completely off track with often they're completely out of food and money
