Do you think that since Toph is basically wrestling famous as well as hailed as a world hero and Greatest Earthbender that she has like actual die hard fans?

Like pro athletes do the John Cena ‘you can’t see me gesture’ but in this verse it’s Toph’s ‘I’m blind’ one whenever they do something cool? Kids running around the streets playing ‘Earth Rumble’ and they fight over who can be the ‘Blind Bandit’.

And since the Earth Kingdom is the largest, people stop and recognize her more often than even the AVATAR and try to get her autograph and stuff. And the rest of the Gaang try to say she can’t give an autograph because hello she’s blind, only for her to slap a muddy hand in the fans like clothes or face and they fucking SCREAM like that’s what they’ve been waiting for. And she’s like ‘What? Do yall not KNOW how big Earth Rumble was? I was the Reigning champion of course I had fans 🙄’ and they’re both confused and a little jealous about it 😂

Re-watched "The Chase" today and I can't stop laughing at how it was from Toph's point of view. She had a whole soap opera laid down before her very feet and nobody aknowledges it around her.

In a total of 24 hours, Toph learns: that there's this guy called Zuko who has been chasing the Gaang for a while and that he disappeared one day. She then goes to drink tea with a wise old man who she doesn't think much of except that he misses his nephew. Then she decides to go help the Gaang in a fight against the fire princess. During the fight, the fire princess shoots a guy down, who happens to be the old man she had a chat with earlier, then there's this other kid who looks absolutely distraught by what happened. So oh okay this is the guy's nephew nothing much— DID YOU CALL HIM ZUKO. And like what do you mean the girl we've just been fighting is his sister... IS ZUKO THE PRINCE OF THE FIRE NATION??? IS THE OLD GUY I'VE BEEN TALKING TO FOR ADVICE THE BROTHER OF THE FIRE LORD?! WHAT.

Mind you this girl has been out of her childhood home, which she has basically never left for 12 years, for like a week and this happens to her. I bet she's never been more thrilled.

(I saw the movie leaks and I was INSTANTLY thrusted back into ATLA hyperfixation and I wanted to give it a go at drawing one of my all time favorite characters because Toph's story is so wonderfully done and theres so much nuance that I HAD to draw em out. This is a two parter piece AND I still have more ideas so buckle up)

Imagine you're a big wrestling fan. You follow this one really dominant wrestler and you absolutely love her. You keep up with all the drama and you're super invested until one week there's just Bomb after Bomb.

First your fave dominates an event - duh, obviously, she's the best. Then during the part of the show where the announcer is like "anybody in the audience want to challenge her for a fat stack of cash", somebody actually does. (Obviously a tourist.) It's some kid wearing like a beginner outfit from a McDojo... and he actually wins?And gets the cash! And then the event just ends!?

You're buzzing. It's clear that this is like a storyline or something. You can't wait for next week's show. Except that there isn't one, because - as you find out through the gossip mill - your fave was actually the local billionaires' daughter who was competing in secret. And also kayfabe might not exist. And now she's gone and the billionaire is blaming a demigod (who's back from the dead? I guess?) for kidnapping her.

So, how come that means no show this week or possibly ever? Well, the billionaire hired the promoter (and a random McDojo sensei) to go after the demigod to get back his daughter (your fave wrestler!) and the guy just... packed up his entire promotion and left.

Some months later the war that's been going on since your great-grandfathers days ends. You go to a peace parade. And there she is: Toph Beifong, the Blind Bandit, giving the new Fire Lord a noogie.

Insane fucking storyline.
