Anon you sent this like five days ago I have no excuse except I drove from the Mexican border to the Canadian border and back in five days. Anyways this au was born of watching the godfather and then listening to Three Cheers by MCR over and over.
I’m basing this in Boston in the 1950s because I am not dealing with the complexity that is the five families in New York City or whatever was going on in Philadelphia
I’m not actually sure what kind of white Will is so we’re going with Irish because there’s always been an Irish presence in Boston, and by default an Irish organized crime presence
I am taking incredible liberties with the cohesiveness of the Irish organized crime. In reality, there were individual independent gangs rather than a single consolidated family but here we’re going with a single consolidated family!
There was in fact no Yugoslavian or Croatian organized crime present in Boston in the 1950s. I am making it up, because Mack is Croatian (I think on his paternal side?)
Additionally, no I will not be delving into the debacle that is Croatian identity versus Yugoslav identity
Anyways for the purposes of this au, I’m putting the two factions against each other!!
Grandson of the head of the Irish family, technically second in line (male favoring primogeniture)
Has been trained up to take the place of his father (and eventually grandfather) since he was old enough to comprehend what their “family business” was

Somewhat disinterested in the inner workings of organized crime, but goes along with it because who else is going to?

Not necessarily treated as a spare? It’s not really even a concept that he’d ever take over
Somewhat sheltered, intentionally raised away from Boston to keep him out of the organized crime life
Think of him kind of like Michael Corleone—he’s the one that everybody kind of expects to leave the “family business” and do something else
Ends up back in Boston via university whoops
Smart, considered kind of “soft” by the other families involved in Boston, tends to live in the shadows of Aiden (who is the heir to the family and is highly protective over his siblings)

Will and Mack meet at a funeral ( @veryasuns thinks the dead guy should be Bettman lol)
Will is immediately enamored and Mack is waaaaaaaaay more cautious about it
They’re unfortunately stuck in Romeo and Juliet but in Boston and with way more firearms

You know how in the godfather three Mary Corleone gets shot at her brother’s concert on accident? Like the assassins are trying to get Micheal but they miss him and hit his granddaughter instead? Think of that, but it’s a banquet, and somebody’s trying to get Rick but gets Mack instead (and maybe RJ? Just for drama)
