IRON FIST FRIDAY Vol. 395 / IRON FIST WEEK DAY 3 – FAVORITE RELATIONSHIP: DANNY RAND AND COLLEEN WING
It’s a dual event today! And I didn’t go with what most people would choose—Danny and Misty’s romantic relationship or Danny and Luke’s friendship. That’s because my favorite has always been Danny and Colleen.
Colleen was Danny’s first friend after he returned to New York from K’un-Lun. They were also sparring partners, and Danny wasn’t just close to Colleen, but to her father as well, which made their bond even deeper.
More than that, they share something unique, a connection formed through their mind-meld. It’s a kind of bond neither of them has with anyone else. That level of connection is rare, and it’s something you usually only see between lovers.
Originally, I thought Danny and Colleen would end up together, especially after The Search for Colleen Wing storyline ended. But that’s not how Chris Claremont wrote it. Still, that didn’t stop me from hoping they would eventually become a couple.
Later on, in the original Ultimate Universe, Danny and Colleen were actually married and had a child. Even if I’m not as fond of that version of Danny, I was just happy to see the two of them together.
And when the Netflix series finally brought them together as a couple, I was genuinely happy. After so many years, it felt like they finally got there.
So yes, for Day 3 of Iron Fist Week, my favorite relationship is Danny and Colleen. If they were fully explored as a couple, they would be an incredible fighting duo—both martial arts masters, with Danny sharing his Iron Fist training and Colleen sharing her samurai skills. They made each other better through their connection.
And even as friends, the two of them share a closeness that they don't have with any other. It's a relationship that's beautiful and unique, and one that they'll likely never be able to share with anyone else.👊
