Cape Craft and Design Institute
The Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI) was set up in 2001 to support the needs of creative businesses in the Western Cape, and to grow the region’s craft and design sector. A not-for-profit company, the CCDI is a joint initiative of Western Cape Government and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
Over the years, the CCDI has developed a range of activities to help improve creative businesses. We work with craft producers, designers and other creative entrepreneurs. Whether you need a short course on how to cost your product or service, time in our Product Support space developing your latest idea, or support to access markets, we have the services to help you grow.
Our core programmes are: Product Support, Business Support, Market Support and Design Support.
In 2012, the Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) collaborated with the CCDI and other key role-players to develop a Design Strategy to unlock innovation in the province. The CCDI has been tasked with driving the implementation of the strategy with a wide range of stakeholders and is building a design ecosystem to support innovation in the province.
REGISTER To join our network, receive updates or access our highly-subsidised services, register via the CCDI website. Registration is FREE.

Parental support for creative kids | DEFSA
Eight Positive Ways to Support Your Designing Kid:
Understanding Design and your child’s interest in the subject or career
As Design is a new high school subject, and because the field of Design is constantly evolving, many parents don’t really know what Design is all about, nor are they necessarily familiar with Design careers. This can be quite a challenge to the aspiring young designer. The more you know about Design, and the more you understand why your child is particularly attracted to it, the more you can help them to maximize the educational opportunities open to them and make good choices.
