In which, Shiro has realized he was in love with Keith even during the events of the series. But because Keith had expressed his love is not romantic, Shiro did his best to try and move on.
Keith, still relatively new to forming close bonds with people misunderstood his own love for Shiro as simply familial. He came to the realization that he was in love with him, this whole time, moments before Shiro’s wedding. It was when Shiro gave him a ‘goodbye’ kiss on his forehead, closing the door once and for all on what could have been.
