You Snooze, You Lose
Evie just started at him for a moment. She had literally no idea who he was talking about. “I assure you, nothing happened between me and whatever man you speak of seeing as I have no idea who you’re meaning.”
She just rolled her eyes when he’d made such an immature joke. “Jacob, What are you twelve?”
“I could meet with her on my way out if you’d like. Just give me the details and I’ll see what I can do.” She just shrugged. Evie was honestly surprised Jacob, the more ‘charming’ of the two was so willing to pass off a social mission to her. Sure, she was pleasant to others except her brother, but even then people had always liked Jacob more. It would make sense though if this woman would be skeptical of any male who tried to speak to her. She just supposed she’d have to see when she got too it. “Though I hope you’re not planning on recruiting the poor woman.”
The man waves it off a bit and shrugs. Not his problem if she forgets - as long as there’s no lingering consequences. Then he might get involved. In any case, when she moves on to the topic of the woman, he folds his arm and rocks a bit on his heels, “Right. I’ll have the lads nearby just in case it turns out to be some sort of ambush, but she seemed genuine enough.” It made plenty of sense to him. Lady with a bun in the oven.. him being… well.. him.. and Evie being a woman -
“Though I wouldn’t mind coming along. I can stay back. Wouldn’t hurt in case unwelcome guests decided to show.” He comments in afterthought. In truth he just wanted to pick a fight with the Blighters. An itch to beat on them for making the poor woman have to go to this length to feel safe. He wouldn’t do that to someone in his gang… of course.. he was a gentleman. “Saves some time as well.”
“I can also break these knew brass knuckles in.” Jacob lifts his eyebrows as he brings his hand up, pulling his fingers into a tight fist to show off the spiked brass tight against his knuckles. He studies them with admiration, lips ever so slightly tugged downward as if taking in some high valued piece. Though it appears they already had been used a few times… according to the blood that dulled the shine slightly.
And there he went again. Jacob always looking for a fight. “There are other ways to plan a meeting to garentee it isn’t an ambush you know. But you may as well. I had a feeling you’d be out for something more then helping a poor woman.” Evie just shook her head.
“I’m not getting involved in your little gang wars unless necessary. Just, try not to destroy property or anything Jacob. You have a tendency of destroying more things then you intend too.”
