I don’t reckon I’ll ever finish fleshing out this AU, but I wanna spill a bit about a few key [!] characters [1/3]:
Elliot Ludwig
His biggest issue is that he’s completely cut off from the real world. His parents raised him in isolation, drilling into him their idea of “proper” values and educating him entirely outside mainstream society. He’s clever, chivalrous, and embodies the most idealised version of a wealthy white gentleman you can possibly imagine. He genuinely doesn’t understand how anyone could treat people poorly if they haven’t committed actual crimes. He has no clue how to respond to so-called “historically justified” racism or sexism, and he’s utterly careless about what he says to other wealthy white blokes. Elliot is childishly naive and soft-hearted, with an absolutely shattered psyche. He’ll keep making mistakes without even realising it: adopting Ollie [who, in this AU, has very dark skin], appointing Stella [also dark-skinned, and a woman] to a leadership role, and doing plenty of other things that thoroughly piss off the racist, patriarchal arseholes in his social circle. In the end, this is precisely why nobody bothers investigating his “mysterious death”: everyone just suspects each other, assuming Ludwig’s latest “antics” finally pushed someone too far. Even within the Company, no one pays much attention —shows just how lonely he truly was.
If you sometimes think you can hear a heartbeat coming from him, rest assured — it’s merely a phantom sensation.
It seems we’ve already touched on this topic, but we’d like to elaborate once again on Harley’s role in the AU:

Matthew, Kevin and Scarlet [Baba Chops, yeah].
If Matthew seems like a shaggy golden retriever to you, you’re not imagining it.
That's not funny, guys. How long has it been? Like a minute since I posted?

Family Relationships
[at the beginning —> as time passes]
It's worth noting that ultimately, they all share a form of love, because over time, these companions bound by misfortune become a true family. There's nothing romantic about it — only platonic.
The obsession they feel manifests as hyper-protectiveness and heightened attention. This isn't entirely negative; rather, it comes across as charming and sweet. Still, like any obsession, it cannot be considered entirely healthy.
Love/friendliness or love/sympathy mean exactly what they appear to mean. Just like in real life — you love your family, yet you feel varying degrees of attachment toward different siblings. Sympathy involves idealizing someone and wanting to spend as much time as possible with them, whereas friendship is more realistic and allows space for solitude without an overwhelming urge to cling to someone [yes, Jackie definitely struggles with being alone after everything he's been through].
Harley's disgust toward boys stems from his aversion to experimentation. He doesn't feel this specifically toward children themselves, but rather toward what they physically represent. This attitude originates from his time as a scientist and will eventually fade away.
Kevin's hatred toward Harley is a projection of his pain, anger, and desire for revenge against all doctors. In reality, he treats Sawyer even more neutrally than Matthew does, because his psyche perceives the scientists' cruelty less severely compared to that of the older brother.
Matthew's disgust arises from his protective instinct toward his younger brothers. What repels him isn't Doctor himself, but rather how Harley speaks to and treats the children — as if they were no longer human. Over time, this feeling will dissipate as Sawyer himself changes his attitude toward children.
