The 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser sped through one of the many secondary roads of the US map. Long past them was the city of Charlotte, whose history was now stained with the killing of a young police officer and a couple of thugs. There was still blood on Hashim’s tattooed hands which now held the wheel with a calm that seemed inhuman.
A cigarette hang between his lips. Sweat layered his neck and drooled down his chest, a black tank-top showing part of his chest tattoos. His bleached hair was a mess, as if it had never been combed.
Guns were efficient and guns were indeed what took their lives, but he liked to use his fists.
Especially when it came to the rescue of that boy he had dragged with him to the car and off the state. Wyatt, was his name. Hash had saved his life. And that joined them, or so he wanted to think. “Cool, huh?” he said after tossing the cigarette outside his window and turning the volume from the radio up. Animals was a great way to start their roadtrip as fugitives of the law. “The good ol’ music. A modern classic, mind ya’.”
Sure, Hashim wouldn’t like being in Wyatt’s position. But that was life. “Look, I’m sorry” he said under his breath, whispering with the hope that Nickelback silenced his words — Hashim was never one to apologise to strangers. “They had it coming. And that fucking pig too.”
