ethan did not realize how strong he had become after he turned into a vampire. never thought of it. when he picked up the soccer ball from the ground, he saw someone near by “didn’t hit you, huh? if it did, i’m sorry, i never saw were it went. are you not doing as everyone else? trying to figure out what is going on?” he asked “i realized it’s no point doing anything”

🔥 ― the ball shooting out of nowhere had startled the boy, at least initially. it actually broke his concentration long enough for him to laugh at the absurdity. “all good,” he reassured, patting his untouched form. he opened his mouth at the question but, did he really feel the same way?  that it was useless. “taking a break from it, actually.”

Tessa swallowed hard, long enough to try and calm down and give a semi-coherent answer. “Someone disappeared right in front of me… I can’t get a hold of some of my friends who I know had come back… They all seem to be gone,” she said sadly, pain evident in her voice. Having people close to her like this and not just in a research way… it didn’t happen often for Tessa. So feeling the pain of the disappearances made it hurt even worse. “I just want to bring them all back.”

🔥 ― Emotions were high, for a lot of people. The school alone took a big hit and everywhere they turned, it seemed to only get worse. “Hey, hey..!” He laid a hand on her knee, gentle pats to accompany his equally gentle words. “We’re going to figure it out. Whatever it takes.” He paused, taking everything in. “Do you want to talk about it?”

If it wasn’t enough that the man she cared about disappeared right after she kissed him, then the nightmares and visions began. All the ways she had imagined her mother dying, though she hadn’t seen it for herself, were once again haunting her. And her father… She actually saw him die, held him in his last moments and she was experiencing that pain all over again. It was so much pain to remember those things, to feel them. It wasn’t just Ansel that had disappeared either, it was everyone who had come back. Luke, who had become her best friend was gone. Klaus was gone. Kaspar was gone… It wasn’t fair. She had to find a way to bring them back. So Tessa was in the library, making a mess and scouring the books there. “There has to be some way to fix this.”

🔥 ― “There always is.” As confident as he forced that to sound, there was stress in his brow. A certain dread in the way he turned the page of the next book. He had been running on no sleep, for what he thought had just been nightmares at first had become ever so vivid. Focusing here, keeping himself grounded and on task seemed to help, for now. “Have we heard back.. from anyone?” All of the dead who’d returned at all, just vanishing like this. And the visions.. “They didn’t come back at the same time. That must mean something.”

“I want to get out of the school. Go into the city.” She wanted to feel normal for just a second. “Well,” she leaned in to whisper. “considering its past curfew, yes I’d say it’s on the DL.” 

🔥 ― “Fair point.” He smiled widely and warm. “Invisibility spell?”

“this is not how i expected new orleans to be. i have heard the city are famous for their parties, i can’t see many out here. or is it only at night?” jeremy spoke out loud, not to anyone special. the hunter did not look at the person he spoke to.

🔥 ― he recognized the gentleman immediately. considering he’d been tasked to tail him, once upon a time, he figured he’d remember too. mainly the part about landon was something of an idiot. “uh, yeah, i had the same thought.” he still wasn’t too sure about how the city worked. he was still playing catch up. “the nightlife is pretty crazy though.” crazier than mystic falls ever was.

Josie was hoping her face wasn’t showing her emotions, but it was evident that wasn’t the case. “Nothing.” Josie ran a hand through her hair. “Can we do something?”

🔥 ― “Sure can.” His body shifts so he’s facing her directly, undivided attention and all that. “What did you have in mind?” He then added quietly, “Is this on the DL?”

They don’t interrupt their brother as he lashes back, and he can’t even blame him. He brings up his life, about the far from perfect reality he lived for years while he stood by. They’d made a vow never to get too close, never to interfere unless necessary, and all it had earned them was more pain and death than already plagued their existence. It would have been easy to remain silent even after the phoenix throws the last jab, but they can’t help but crack a somber smile.  “Do you know what my job was before watching you?” They don’t wait long enough for their youngest brother to speak before explaining. “When I didn’t turn out like Dad planned, he kept making more of us. One after another, after another,  leaving them for me to raise and take care of until the time was right. When they failed, he just kept the cycle going… they just turned into numbers for him.” He clasps his hands, looking off at nothing in particular as his mind searches through the past, through a life of inadequacy in the eyes of their father, and of a life of hard work that had earned him nothing but the ache in his chest he felt now.  “Dad wasn’t really a dad… and I didn’t know the first thing about raising someone else… but I figured it out. I loved them… all of them… and now they’re all gone. Everyone is gone, but me - ” Looking up from his hands, he looks at the phoenix. “ - and you. If it makes you feel any better, I’m not happy either of us are here. ”

🔥 ― He’d had some time to think about this. To really sit with it, all of it. What he was, what that meant for him and the person ― mud man ― in front of him and the circumstances they were forced in because of their shared sire. What he didn’t consider was all that had come before him. What that may have meant for Malivore, or Clarke, or him as a result. He was ready to give up on this conversation entirely until he heard that word: love. It took a minute, but things started to really click from that point moving forward. So, the first of those many thoughts bubbled out of the curl-ridden boy’s head. “You didn’t hate me because I had what you didn’t!” he blurted. The realization was stunning. “Well, probably, for the most part.. You hate me, okay, I get that.” A tiny backtrack. Landon being the first meant there were many, evidently, that didn’t make the cut. “What I mean to say is I’m sorry. I’m sorry I got a chance and they didn’t― that you lost them. I’m sorry our Dad didn’t care.”

her real answer well.. she couldn’t just quite go around saying she was a witch, not to just anyone without knowing who they were. “your guess is as good as mine, luck?” florence shrugged, glancing over at the male beside her. “though this place also seems so busy i’m sure you could manage one if you tried.”

🔥 ― his face broke into a sheepish smile. appreciative, but a little embarrassed. “it’s okay, really,” he reassured, not wanting to leave the impression that she had to worry about him. eyes avoiding hers as he passed his drink between his palms. “i’m just looking for an excuse to.. i don’t know. wallow more?” he exhaled; a forced, quick sigh. “sorry. i’m something of an idiot.”

🔥 ― “Hey. Hey?” He made note of the look on her face, and the way she slumped down. “What’s the matter?”

florence didn’t exactly have any identification, and if she had it would date back to the 1800s. she was hoping that the bartender would be kind enough to not check when she ordered a drink, the only one she really remembered from her time because the rest sounded like nonsense on their menu. “thank you kindly.” she said, the bit of southern accent in her words from being raised in the southern part of georgia. she was sipping on her drink when she felt a pair of eyes on her, she looked up and over as her emerald hues sat on the other in return and she didn’t say a word.

🔥 ― “how’d you do that?” he asked, disbelief written all over his face, as he pointed at the dismissed bartender. he shifted his weight onto the bar. “ah, don’t worry about. it’s probably for the best.” he sipped his iced tea and sighed. defeated.

“Well, you should be the one to write it, don’t you think? Tell your own story instead of letting someone else get it wrong,” she suggested. Not everyone got to tell their stories themselves. Often, other people told it and changed what they wanted. Landon had the chance to use his own words at least. “Well, if we’re talking about the ones we just know about, I was always a fan of vampires, but I guess I’m biased growing up with them. But if we’re talking about ones that maybe existed at some point… Well, I really hope mermaids exist.”

🔥 ― Landon’s head took on a tilt. “That’s not a half bad idea.” He’d always wanted to curate a story.. back when his life was too typical to draw inspiration from. Now that he wasn’t actively fighting for  his life, he might actually put the pen to paper. “Unicorns exist. Mermaids should definitely exist.” Based on their previous encounters, however, he wouldn’t be surprised if they were terrifying and absolutely awful. “Vampires are pretty cool. First time I died was a vampire.”

In some ways, it was just a thrill to the golem to see the younger child of Malivore riled up, but it was equally as satisfying to take out years of resentment and mud daddy issues on him.  “Why would I help father’s prodigal son?” It wasn’t as if he hadn’t been assigned to watch over him and Seylah. “You’re his favorite, of course he saw to it that you had a loophole to dying. A good thing considering you can’t keep yourself alive.” He hadn’t even been at the Salvatore School a year before he’d kicked the bucket the first time. “My job to protect you and watch over you was over the instant you found dear old dad and your time to be meat puppet extraordinaire came around. Which, as per usual, you managed to fuck up.”

🔥 ― Prodigal, favorite, protected. None of these weighed more than a feather to the beaten and battered foster child. “Oh, I don’t know, because I didn’t even know who I was until you showed up?” Landon’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment he debated walking away. But no, this conversation had been long overdue, and if Clarke was going to rail into him, he was going to throw a few punches of his own. “You watched over me, right?  What did you think. Personally, after home five, I stopped feeling sorry for myself.” He is quick to add, “I fucked up your plan. Not mine. I did exactly what I set out to do ― protect my family.”

“Well, we can start anywhere. We could just talk about things you like or if you have any questions about the supernatural world, I could try to solve them. I have lots of books and knowledge about things,” she offered, giving him some examples. “Or if you just feel overwhelmed, I can listen while you talk about that. And I wouldn’t tell anyone what you had to talk about either. I know you just met me, so you don’t trust me yet, but maybe with time,” she suggested. “I know they have. Which is why I wanted to offer you someone to talk to if you needed it.”

🔥 ― “A lot of what I’m going through is going to end up in a book.” He was the final chapter of Malivore, after all. If not the theme of the entire arc. “Okay, let’s start little. What’s your favorite supernatural creature?”

His answer, although not unexpected, made Orion frown slightly. She moved closer to him so that their arms were just touching, hoping that her presence would be at least a bit comforting. “It’s good to see you too. Really good, actually.” Landon had been the only shred of familiarity her life had left after the incident, and she had worried so much about him during his… absence that she was pretty sure she was getting gray hairs. “Do you want to talk about it? Or do you want to do something ‘normal’?”

🔥 ― The little touch was nice. The tension in Landon’s shoulders eased, returning the gesture with a small smile. “Well. What’s there to talk about?” he offered, though warmly. Attempting a playful air. “I was a meatsuit for my crazy monster mud dad. I come back to a full tribrid girlfriend, who’s probably said two words to me since. I’m guessing that means we’re on a break,” he added, teasing himself. “I don’t know. I feel like I should be doing something but there’s nothing, and when I try to focus on the big details I.. just can’t. So, what’s something normal we can talk about?”

Has it been hard adjusting to normal life after coming out of Malivore?

🔥 ― “Nothing about my life is normal, but, yeah. It’s kind of like coming back to a TV show and learning you’ve skipped a season.”
