There is so much to love about traveling. From the music humming throughout the night to the sound of ancient fountains that have run for years, being in historic cities is one of my favorite past times. After walking all over the city, we made it across the Tiber River to the smallest country in the world-- The Vatican, nestled perfectly next to Rome. There was something magical about this night in Roma in late July. On this night, we were making our way back to our BnB from dinner, where I had an incredible spaghetti carbonara. Halloween weekend began with a short drive through Central Coast vineyards. We headed to one of my favorite places, a quaint danish town snuggled in Santa Ynez Valley called #Solvang. The beautiful thing about reading historical fiction set in Tudor England is that it transports me to London—where I can touch the walls of the White Tower, walk along historic bridges, Squares where victories were celebrated, and shops that celebrate teas blended centuries ago. I think sometimes we limit ourselves and lower our dreams—not just in our lives for the “big” things, but for little things—for the vacation stops and the restaurants that are normally too busy—just because of thinking that isn’t necessarily negative, but is rarely positive or hopeful. We weren’t neglecting what we wanted, but strategizing based on reality. And it’s sad when the problem holding us back is ourselves. It’s three more months until the end of the year and I think that we could remind ourselves to be intentional with hope. To set our minds to believe we can do things we’ve dreamed of doing. To live a life where we are amazed at the things we are given just because we’ve asked. We need to dream more, hope more, and be intentional in the process. I mean, what’s the point in living a life of choosing to settle for second when we could have first? I believe that everyone has a choice to be positive about your day. A tiny note about confidence if you’re feeling short of yourself: you are where you’re meant to be and everything you’re doing is enough.

With the pandemic seeming to increasingly change the way we live, I think it’s important to do something you love each day, whether that be meditation, yoga, diving into a good read, writing…anything! Invest in a passion project to do something big.

It’s easy to feel out of sorts with the way things are.  For us foodies, takeout is becoming the new dine-in.  For us travelers, the need to explore and learn new things can make us feel so. utterly. restless.

But there are things we can do everyday to feel like ourselves. Last week, I dove into a historical fiction set in France. Now, I’m diving into a book set in England which is totally helping the stuck-in-town feeling.

Do something for you and do something that makes you feel most like you. You might end up writing the next bestseller, learning something absolutely life-changing, or finding more of yourself in your little corner of the world.

Good things happen everyday. And yet, sometimes it feels like we wait for the “good stuff.” We wait for work to be over, for the weekend to start, for our next 3 day weekends… Do you ever feel like that? Sometimes it feels like my week felt is a bunch of days that blur together and I can’t tell one day from the other. It’s less than FOUR months until 2020 is officially over. This year seems to have flown by and last forever, making us feel like the days escape us. Sometimes, we can try to be SO productive but we can’t seem to remember the good things that happen in each individual day. It takes being mindful to remember the “good stuff " but I think the good is worth the effort. These quickly passing days are better than we remember, but we have to take note of it.
