Marcel Broodthaers was born on this day in 1924, and died on this day in 1976, forty years ago. Broodthaers worked primarily as a poet until the age of forty, when he turned to the visual arts. Over the next twelve years, his work retained a poetic quality and a sense of humor, and he invented ways to give material form to language while working across mediums—poetry, sculpture, painting, books, printmaking, and film. We’ll be presenting a retrospective of his work February 14–May 15, 2016.
