Book Review: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz
The more you read, the more interesting it gets. I liked it especially when the writer begins the story with full of questions and seamlessly unfolds the story by a little bit but enough to make you keep going. Also, the sudden narrative shiftings are a one of the inseparable parts of the book that makes it more gripping yet perplexing. It can be taken both as a plus and a minus. However, one thing I truly want to point out is that the author does not use any quotation marks, which makes the reading process quite confusing. Anyways, I have never read a novel about lives in Dominican Republic, so the Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao was a very new experience me, and that’s what made me like it. “The only way out is in.” -Lola “What’s certain is that nothing’s certain.” Feb 4, 2018 (Started this book in train from Irkutsk to Ulaanbaatar, and have managed it to finish for this week’s challenge.)
There is something about the novel and every dominican that had read it can tell you that: you can read it either in English or Spanish and you will find the “Platanism” in every letter of this book.
