A Lovestruck English Lesson👩🏫: Antares💥 season 1, set 4
And just like that it's over. Amazing how quickly a season flies by when you are reading it and how looooong it feels for it to debut.
Needless to say this was, for me, the most exciting LI since Sascha. I bought every single heart scene (something I haven't done since Cal) and loved every word of this season.
The pacing was perfect, the plot made sense and most of all, the writing never wavered. Not one sentence felt odd or out of place. Every beat was crafted with thought, every line out of Antares mouth matched the Antares of his first route. Similar to Nikolai, this isn't a route that is easy to read. The vocabulary, syntax and references require effort on behalf of the reader, which in turn makes it an engaging, enriching experience.
I was hoping this new route would be good.
I didn't expect it to exceed its predecessor.
Lets take a look at some of set 4:
For anyone not familiar with the term "wetwork" in the context of the criminal underworld, it is a euphemism for murder or assassination, the wet referring to blood spilled.
I loved this: the paradox of her plan being both stupid and clever.
This MC hates his helmet as much as WLL MC hated Sascha's hat lol I don't blame her as it does hide his beautiful eyes. I also wanted to comment on the verb "stutter", which is a great choice: stuttering implies that it COULD stop, an element of danger and excitement.
metaphor: her gratitude is a "spiky thing", something she is unable to process too closely as it makes her uneasy. I got this image of a spiked ball, something to be dealt with gingerly. There's also a nice bit of alliteration with "grudging gratitude".
I loved how visual this is. You can picture the violence and energy of the whip and beam saber coming together. "Hiss" is onomatopoeia, a word that represents a sound, and there's another pleasant choice for the ear with "tangling together". You picture two animals, wildly attacking one another, maybe two snakes wrapping around each other and battling for supremacy.
And that is all for this season.
