Tl;dr: I think Pierrot may be have kelpie inspirations or he is the offspring of the Vitoria Régia or Iara. I think a Boto Cor-de-Rosa. Offspring specifically due to the Vitoria's beauty and Iara's sirenic singing.
With the new AMA, Pierrot revealed, "My parents were teaching me how to fish it was a lot of fun, and the sunset looked beautiful beneath the water."
Which can lead one to believe he has aquatic origins/traits. For me, seeing as he was represented as horse-like with Harlequin's puppets, his beautiful hair, and the fact his voice has some ability, I theorized he may be a kelpie or similar creature. Since the kelpie is Scottish and our beloved clowns are Brazilian, I asked my beautiful wonderful amazing Brazilian friend if there is a similar creature in her culture's folklore.
A few creatures came up when I googled it then asked my friend. The Ipupiara is one, being the "cuckhold Brazilian folklore cryptid." That one made me laugh. Another one was the Boto Cor-de-Rosa. A fish man that comes to land every full moon to impregnate young woman and goes back to the water.
When I asked specifically about something similar to a kelpie, she told me about the lore behind the Vitoria Régia. "Vitoria Régia folk lore is as follows. A young native girl, fell in love with a noble. Sad she was, for she was far too young and he was promised for another. She cried in the amazon river for the help of Caipora, the spirit of the jungle. She wished for an embrace no man could escape. Caipora said "I can grant your wish, if you can dive down and find the hidden flower in the deep of the river. Of course, there are no flowers at the deep of the river, so the poor girl drowned, for her hope to find the power to realize her wish, was greater than her will to live. However, moved by her commitment, Caipora granted her wish. So she was reborn as the Vitoria Régia. This plant, legend says, in the light of the full moon, the visage of the most beautiful woman can be seen laying on the pad. If any men, were to walk to her, she'd swallow them whole."
Edit/Correction on Vitoria Régia by xtheiznvenyx in comments: "she didn't fall in love with a noble, she fell in love with the Moon. In the story, the Moon chose certain young women and transformed them into stars to keep them close to her (Yes, the Moon in Tupi mythology is female named Jaci, doomed yuri let's go) . Naiá (the name of the Vitória Regia when she was human), was eager to be chosen, and so enamored with the moon, she began to eat less just to keep looking at her. One night, Naiá stopped to rest by the lake until she saw Jaci's reflection in the water. She was so emotional, believing she had finally been chosen, that she entered the water and drowned. Jaci, seeing the immense love the young woman had for her, was moved, but instead of transforming her into a star, she transformed her into a water lily, known as the star of the waters...and only at night does it blooms, because Naiá never forgot Jaci"
Both versions are really beautiful! Vitoria Régia is the giant water lily. I asked if she was known to have offspring. My friend said some tribes claim she can give birth to a Boto. Naiá's tale is one of selfish love, as is the Boto's. I'd argue yandere love is extremely selfish.
There are also the Iara, which is essentially Brazil's version of a siren. Caipora gave Iara the bottom half of a Boto so she can continue to swim as she loves as long as she sang for Caipora.
The Theory: I believe Pierrot may be a kelpie. But if sticking to Brazilian folklore, he might be a Boto. Specifically, his mom may be Naiá or Iara, to explain his beauty and voice. I am partial to Naiá because water lilies are my favorite flower.
Side note: I fucking adore Caipora and Boitata. My friend is happily teaching me more and I am so gay for her telling me about her culture
