      âYou gotta see this.â           |             âWhaaaaat?â
Starco and their respective Earth/Mewni portals in Cleaved.Â
This is how the show end when Star and Marco said "Hey" to each other and then the end ? why didn't they kiss or said anything ? What a disappoint finale.ï»ż
While one more kiss, or a hug, would have been nice, objectively speaking what we got was much better. Star and Marcoâs relationship was officially âcompleteâ as of Here to Help: by embracing their romantic love they were able to fully accept and acknowledge how much they mean to each other, and what special roles they have in their respective lives. With this being âdoneâ, the finale could focus on a more âpristineâ form of love for Star and Marco, the bare fundamentals of their relationship, two people who adore being together and like doing that over anything else in the universe. This doesnât mean that they arenât boyfriend and girlfriend anymore - the episode reminds us that itâs still a thing at the very beginning, with Eclipsa reacting to them holding hands, but thatâs just a subset of something bigger.
The hug in the Realm of Magic is THE Starco moment in the series because it shows the truest needs in their hearts: scared, confused, two kids who donât know whatâs going on, or whatâs going to happen, while the world around them ends, and what do they do? They hug, because when theyâre together like it feels like everything is going to be alright.
This is why the ending shot is perfect: they greet each other, having met again after having been separated, two dorks who know that the next part in their lives finally begins in that moment, together forever. Theyâre in a new world but they only care about each other. Iâm not saying that a kiss or a hug would have cheapened the moment (Iâd have LOVED the show to end on a kiss, subjectively speaking), but I feel like this better conveys the core theme of the finale, and of the show as a whole: they have a whole life in front of them now, thereâs no more need to rush, no more âI have to say this before itâs too lateâ, they can just enjoy each otherâs presence and then decide what they want to do, together.
