A/N: Haunted DarkSaber Din has continued to live rent free in my mind all morning. It’s kind of a mess, but we are here. I know a Discord started this trope so I don’t know who to cite for this masterful idea, but it is certainly not mine.

There’s something wrong with Din.

You blame it on a lot of things.

The absence of Grogu. The stress of the last few months. The responsibility that has been laid at Din’s feet: the promise of a kingdom he does not want.

He sits at the edge of their bed - staring listlessly into the void of their new ship. The tiny blinking lights paint the hull in a dull red glow. His sharp profile - so angular and familiar - is blurred to shadows. It is almost as if the sweep of his body is being pulled forward - stretched into the black, formless mass of the dark.

“Din,” you whisper, poking your toe into his hip. “Come sleep.”

“I’m so tired,” he murmurs before his face falls into his hands. “I’m…I’m tired.”

“What are you feeding him?”

You startle at the sleepy drag of the Mandalorian’s voice, deeper still through the synthetic warping of his helmet’s modulator.

The orange summer heat of Sorgan must have lulled him off. If not the heat, you were sure his battle battered body had finally relented to its own exhaustion.

You wonder how long he’s been awake as you turn away from the cooing baby, finding him still in the same position he had fallen asleep in, arms clasped loosely over his stomach and his body slack with relaxation against the wicker cot.

Summary: Your husband is not the same man you married and that scares you sometimes.

This man in front of you, is not your husband.

He has all the physical characteristics of the man you married ten years ago. A gorgeously deep brown gaze that roots your feet to the spot whenever your eyes meet across any room. The very same, large bumpy nose, the tip always a bit cold when he presses his face into the nook of your neck from behind on chilly mornings before either of you have had the chance to have your caffeine. Still has the softest hair that seems to melt at your touch when you slip your fingers into the brown locks. Locks that quickly curl at the edges if he misses a hair appointment by more than a week.

Except he rarely looks you in the eyes anymore, and he never spontaneously wraps his arms around you; and you can’t remember the last time you were curled up in his lap, hands nesting into those thick messy strands.

Where there once was softness, it’s been replaced with a calm and oppressive hardness that speaks of an unfamiliar distance that cannot be breached.

i don’t know why dinluke strike me as a very affectionate couple, but only at the most inopportune times for their friends and family? but they do. [ID: a three panel comic.
