Despite the fact that heâd always been a pretty independent person, moving away from his parents the moment he was legally permitted, the recent events had put Xavier a bit on edge. After all, he was young and living completely alone in town, and as each day passed he felt a bit more anxious every time he felt eyes on him, or was spoken to when not expecting it. He was doing his best to not act like a neurotic asshole but he felt like he might have been failing at that a bit. He sat quietly at a table in Starbucks, sipping at a latte when he thought heâd heard someone speaking to him. He gently gave one of his earbuds a tug until it fell out of his ear, clinking as it hit the table. âHuh?âÂ
The older girl had stood in the bustling Starbucks a bundle of books and her laptop in one hand and a hot coffee in the other. The only open chair was across from a upset looking boy so she walked over awkwardly. âHey, is it cool if I sit here?â she asked before realizing that he had headphones. She chuckled as he pulled the buds from his ears. âUm. Hey. I was just wondering if I could sit here.â
Mandy walked up to the Murray boys door casually. She wasnât sure if Freddie was home but here she was anyways. As she knocked on the door her phone buzzed with an âimportantâ text from Becky, her baking 302 partner. She stared down at her screen as the door opened, typing out her message. âHey, I have that romcom you wanted for your hot friday night date.â
@sarcasticlittleshit-noah
âUhm.â Rosie laughed.âYeah well mostly good things. From Noah just a lot of.. stories.â Rosalie explained. âYeah. Well kind of new, weâve been together for a year. How long were you and Freddie together again?â Rosie asked curiously, not having it come off as bitchy in anyway.Â
Mandy couldnât help but laugh at Rosies response. âI can only imagine which stories heâs shared with you. Probably mostly all of my dumb and childish pranks I use to pull on him.â she let out a nostalgic sigh. âFreddie and I? We dated through high school, it was mostly at out parents behest.â
âYeah, I know myself, I like to have a little dick talk with most of my daily activities. Â Not much of a point of getting out of bed otherwise,â Ryan said with a sage sort of nod, managing not to grin for a few beats. Â "The sex politics of Disney movies is really astounding. You have to wonder if one dick was enough for Snow after she did get with the prince.â
âNo dicks, no getting out of bed huh?â she said with a laugh âThat is an interesting way to live your life.â She leaned on the table in front of her, placing her head in her hands as she laughed a little more. âHonestly if I were her I would be off dick for awhile. Maybe iâd go search for another princess at that point.â
âYou just cannot beat a Murray, and unfortunately for you, youâre going to have a hard time finding someone to up my company.â Freddie smirked with a raised eyebrow. He found it nice how they fell into the familiar back and forth. âDonât even joke about going after my younger brother, for his sake.â He teased.
âA rich guy âbeardâ?â He questioned with a laugh, âIâm sure you can buy one online somewhere? Or even better, hook up with a rich old dude your mom knows and see how fast she starts to like your other choices of partnerâŠâ He paused for a moment narrowing his eyes slightly, âor maybe sheâd like thatâŠâ he shuddered with a grimace.
âSee. You even said it right there. No one beats a Murray. Noah here I come.â She joked in a sing song tone. Before holding up her hands in defence. âLast dating Noah joke youâll get from me I swear. I donât think weâre each others type.â Which is strange because I mean who wouldnât be into all this.â
âOf course, youâve never had a âbeardâ?â she poked him âThat is a good idea maybe even a married old rich guy. My mother would love that. Though Iâd probably be sent to some nunery.â Mandy mused with a hearty chuckle.
Fletch nods, smiling. âYeah. The one word I would use to describe those pieces is soft. Very enjoyable to paint. And youâre right. Itâs all the same when you get down to it. Itâs all external motivation.â He says. He raises a brow at her, smirking. âYou and I are very different people, Miss Mandy, who live very different lifestyles. I would have a lot of fun bringing you down to the level of us plebs and teaching you our ways.â He chuckles. âAnd crappy bars are just the start of it all.â He remarks, throwing her a wink.
âSoft is good, I like that description.â Mandy smiled gently with a small hum. She looked Fletch over once, tapping her finger playfully on the table. âI canât disagree with the different lifestyles part. Though are we really all that different?â she smiled coyly âOh, they are just the start? If this were a Disney movie Iâd half expect you to start belting out âA Whole New Worldâ there Fletch.â
Fletch grins. âThereâs some interesting stuff in there. My most recent collection is inspired by nature so Iâm using a lot of earthy colours at the moment. And using a lot of mushies. You can be the proud owner of druggo artwork! Yay!â He laughs, enjoying talking to someone who actually seemed interested in his art. He laughs at her dodgy dive comment. âYeah, I kinda am.â He chuckles. âBut as you say, itâs what makes me fun. New life experiences and all that. I could teach you a few things.â He laughs.
Mandy nodded along as he spoke. âEarth tones sound nice, not too crazy. I can get into it.â she replied laughing, âI mean arenât most good artist fueled by some sort of substance. Drugs, booze, cigarettes, ego, love. What really is the difference.â she joked with a smile. âOh, pray tell, what would one Fletch Godding have to teach a spoiled rich brat like me?â
Freddie smirked at his ex, âYour mom loves me, it is my duty to portray her with at least a decent impression.âÂ
Freddie bit his lip trying not to laugh, âNoah⊠well heâs just Noah, I donât think he misses anyone ever.â He shook his head at the memory of their last interaction. âIâm sure heâd be psyched to see you again.â He took another bite of the tart and nodded along with her explanation. âOh, but you know Iâm the hunkiest hunk, shame Iâm off the market.âÂ
âUgh. Oh I know she does. âFreddie lives in town. Are you two getting back together now? Please tell me you are. He was such a catch, I doubt youâll find another one like him. The McDormands son Logan would be a good match, though I quite enjoyed young Freddies company.â blah blah blah.â
Mandy couldnât help but smirk around Freddie as she watched his familiar mannerisms. âBe honest Noah isnât my biggest fan. Though maybe if he were I could go after the youngest Murray.â she said wiggling her brows jokingly at her ex. Before giving him an exaggerated deadpanned look. âYeah, yeah. Rub in the fact that Mandy is single. I need to find myself another rich guy âbeardâ to avoid the horror of âblind datesâ. Perhaps one that isnât as psychotic as my last one... or I could just use the last one.â she joked with an amused grin.
in high school, i tried very hard to make everybody like me, which resulted in me being extremely unhappy and in a lot of pain. therefore, the lesson i got from that was that i canât make everybody happy.
âOh glorious,â Tate murmured with an annoyed grin, turning and leaning his back against the rim of the bar, hands folded in front of his stretched chest. âIf it isnât the parasite that delivers me nothing but discomforting agony, Mandy; remind me again why I havenât drugged your beverage and tied you up in my basement for my own sick and twisted amusement, yet?âÂ
Mandy rolled her eyes dramatically as the other leaned on the bar next to her. âSay what you like Tate-er-tot, deep down in that black little twisted heart of yours, you love me.â she hummed as she took a sip of her drink. A drink which she cautiously set on the bar to turn and raise her brow at him. âIâm not sure you could handle me for that amount of time. Plus do you really want to upset my daddy.â she added batting her eye innocently at Tate, though her words came out with a bitter tinge as she mentioned her dad. âSo what are you doing skulking around a bar? Shouldnât you be in your dungeon plotting your next scheme to shame and humiliate some doe eyed town idiot?âÂ
Leaving his book right next to him, his eyes turned to dedicate the gilr a cold look âOkay, I honestly donât care if it is or it isnâtâ a bitter smile emerged from his lips, as his tone imitated the one used by the brown eyed âI do not like blueberries, so please, continue your search for someone who does careâÂ
âOoooh I have a cranky one here.â she said placing her hands on her hips giving him a small tilt of her head. Her lips forming a Cheshire like grin spreading across her face. âYou know being a dick to people trying to give you sweets isnât going to get you far.â she mused while inviting herself to sit across from him. âWell, Iâm going to force you to eat it.â
â I only said a little. Same thing.â He tips over to glance at the card before grabbing a glass. â I really do appreciate the gesture, that was cool of you. â Blonde now sliding over. â So are you practising for some kind of pastry championship or did you just take pity on me? â The tease comes with a soft grin as he tosses the bar rag over his shoulder.
âOnly a little, well I guess I can live with being only a little scary.â she chuckled before grasping the glass and taking a sip. Her brow perking at his teasing words. âOh totally pity. I mean you have to sit behind the bar and watch people like me enjoy our drinks all day. How boring? I thought you could use a little something to sweeten up your day.â she said with a grin.
âOh!â Rosie said looking at Mandy. âYeah Iâve heard a lot about you.â She didnât want to judge a book by itâs cover, but she had heard a lot about Mandy and wasnât too sure what to think. Though she was going to be nice to the girl, especially after she gave her a free dessert. âYou want to sit down?â She asked with a smile.Â
âAll good things I hope? Or perhaps all terrible things... depending what Murray youâve heard it from.â she said squinting thoughtfully at the air. Sitting at the invitation offered by the other. âDonât mind if I do.â she beamed, âSo youâre Rosie. Freddies new gf. Iâll be honest and say Iâve been quite curious about you.â
âClaâ what?â Arabella arched an eyebrow at the girl, picking up a fork anyway. Still a tad suspicous, she took a bite of the pastry. âNot yet, but youâve got potential.â
âClafoutis!â She repeated watching in suspense as the other took a bite of her newest creation before letting out a slightly defeated sigh. âWell at least you were honest.â
