Prayer request:
A family friend was induced & had a baby boy on the 27th. Baby K swallowed some meconium on delivery, was placed on a CPAP, and ended up being flown to a higher level of care. Upon arrival, he started having seizures and was intubated. His tests & scans were coming back negative, so they're waiting on genetic/metabolic testing to come back to see if they can figure out the cause of the seizures. The EEG showed that he was having one continuous seizure and is on 3 different medications.
The update from a few minutes ago said that K had gone 24 hours without a seizure as of this morning, but around lunch time started having them again and had 48 seizures in 3 hours.
Please pray for my friend, her husband, and K's big brother as they try to navigate this. K is in good care, but he has fought so hard since birth and still has a long road ahead of him.
Baby K was able to come home last week, only with an NG tube to help supplement feedings. However, he was flown back to the hospital on Tuesday and was intubated today. According to his mom, in the 72-ish hours he has been back in the hospital, he has gotten one hour of sleep and is blessed to have 5-10 minutes of rest between seizures. They have it down to a possible mutated gene and diagnosis that is not a good one.
The family has many prayers behind them, but setbacks like this shake even the strongest. Their ordeal is far from over.
Please take a minute to pray for K, his parents, and big brother. Thank you.
Long overdue update: Baby K has been home for two weeks now, the longest stretch since he was born Memorial Day weekend. He has gotten a G (feeding) tube to hopefully keep his meds at therapeutic levels and he's even gotten a 36 hour stretch of no seizures (his normal is about 5 seizures per hour). The hurdles they are facing now is getting him to gain weight (he's only on the 8th percentile and dropping), diet changes (which might cause more seizures), maintain a medicine therapeutic level, and evaluating his eyesight, which is most likely impaired because of his diagnosis. He has a huge interdisciplinary team behind him to make sure that he is going to live the best life he can.
Please continue to pray for the family as his big brother has had to make a lot of adjustments through all of this, mom as she is main caregiver/driving the long distance to the hospital and in her last semester of nursing school, and dad as he supports them emotionally and financially. This has been a long three months for the family.
Thank you so much for all the prayers that have already been sent.
So, after this update, there will only be one more. K has been in the hospital for a week or so, back to being intubated to try to give his brain some rest. This admission was because they noticed brain swelling, mainly on the left side. He has been on just about every medication they can throw at him and he just burns right through it. Apparently this is not uncommon with his diagnosis and his body metastasizes medication way faster than a normal person, making a tricky balance between increasing medication to keep him sedated and being over the therapeutic level (and potential side effects of being that high for an extended period of time). He has also required a blood transfusion and is third spacing (starting to look like the Michelin man because of his body holding onto fluid). Mom shared a picture of his IV pole with eight different medications running, some to keep him sedated, some to counter the effects of the other medication. He already had a DNR in place and during the family meeting on Wednesday, K was placed in hospice with a DNI. He will hopefully be extubated on Saturday and they will let nature take her course. Please pray that K does well off of intubation and can make it home to pass without alarms, wires, and endless noise. His parents are at peace, as much as they can be with having to make this decision. Y'all are the best 💚

I love when they tell the story exactly as it happened instead of toning it down to make it seem more realistic. Bravo to the team that did this one.

Cory Lee has visited 40 countries on seven continents, and yet the Georgia native has never explored Cloudland Canyon State Park, about 20 minutes from his home. His wheelchair was tough enough for the trip to Antarctica but not for the rugged terrain in his backyard.
Lee’s circumstances changed Friday, when Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources and the Aimee Copeland Foundation unveiled a fleet of all-terrain power wheelchairs for rent at 11 state parks and outdoorsy destinations, including Cloudland Canyon. The Action Trackchair models are equipped with tank-like tracks capable of traversing rocks, roots, streams and sand; clearing fallen trees; plowing through tall grass and tackling uphill climbs.
“I’ll finally be able to go on these trails for the first time in my life,” said the 32-year-old travel blogger, who shares his adventures on Curb Free with Cory Lee. “The trails are off-limits in my regular wheelchair.”
Georgia is one of the latest states to provide the Land Rover of wheelchairs to outdoor enthusiasts with mobility issues.
In 2017, Colorado Parks and Wildlife launched its Staunton State Park Track-Chair Program, which provides free adaptive equipment, though guests must pay the $10 entrance fee. Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources has placed off-road track chairs in nearly a dozen parks, including Muskegon State Park. In 2018, Lee reserved a chair at the park that boasts three miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. “It allowed me to have so much independence on the sand,” he said.
Mobility FTW
