CHAPTER TWO
As we approached the enormous, intricately carved wooden door, my mother’s hushed but cutting comments floated in the air like the scent of blooming flowers mingling with anxiety. “Remember to smile, darling. And for heaven's sake, try not to trip,” she advised, her tone deceptively sweet but laced with that familiar edge.
This was it—the moment that would shift everything. I could feel the weight of the expectation pressing against my chest, matching the thud of my heart. It was as if I stood on the precipice of two worlds; one behind me, filled with childhood innocence and the safety of familiarity, and the other ahead, cloaked in uncertainty and potential chaos.
As I took a deep breath, I glanced down at the delicate lace of my dress, each thread representing years of dreams, hopes, and fears intertwined. My mind raced with thoughts of the life I was about to step into—the vows, the promises, the unwavering ideas of love that seemed so romantic yet felt so daunting.
“Are you ready?” my mother asked, her voice lower now, more serious.
I nodded, though inside I was anything but ready. With a gentle push, she opened the door, and I felt time pause for a heartbeat—a collective inhale before the plunge into a sea of brightly colored dresses, beaming faces, and the undeniable magic of a wedding day.
The next thing I knew, everything around me was fleeting and blurry, a kaleidoscope of colors swirling in the chaotic background of my racing heartbeat. A hurried feeling settled within me, quelling my senses yet igniting an urgent need to reach him. And then I saw him.
“Michael,” I whispered, the name escaping my lips like a prayer, filled with longing and wonder. Our eyes finally made contact—his deep, stormy gaze locked onto mine, and in that instant, time seemed to freeze. The world around us faded into an indistinct haze, leaving only the two of us suspended in a moment that felt both fragile and infinite.
He stood there, embodying everything I had ever dreamed of: tall, with dark hair tousled by the wind, and a subtle smile that hinted at secrets shared only between us. It was as if every step I took toward him pulled me deeper into a magnetic pull, each footfall echoing the thrilling rhythm of my heart.
Every word seems fast-paced, I can only stare at this man for so long. “With this ring, I promise that you will never have to face the world alone anymore.” He stated as he inserted the perfectly fitted ring to my finger.
Every sound faded away—the rustle of the wind, the murmur of distant voices—everything dissolved into the background as I focused solely on him.“I’ll stand by you as long as I live and promise to be there with you through everything and be there for you.” As if my lips knew what words to say. I lifted his hand gently inserting the ring.
