No one really knew how drowners came to be or how they reproduced– some suspected that they were people who had drowned in the water and came back for whatever purpose, others suspected that they were just born this way. Whatever the cause was, it seemed that culling their numbers was really the only thing they could do about it.

“You are warrior, yes?” She asked, noticing the weapon at his side. “Perhaps you can assist with this.” The witcher knelt down to inspect the corpse, her gloved hand going for the elongated tongue in its mouth; she pulled it out, and then used her skinning knife to cut it out, then put it away inside her apocethary satchel.

“We kill enough of herd, rest will scatter. Judging by numbers, I say twenty will do.”

“Of course. I’m sure that you’ll need the help.” 

Wherever they were coming from, it was clear that they needed to be cut down. Reginald didn’t know if it would work for long, as from his experience any monster that formed groups tended to come back in larger numbers, but for now it was probably best not to worry about that. 

He turned to her, drawing his attention away from the corpse. “I’m a knight, but I suppose warrior will do,” he explained, shrugging his shoulders. “Although I guess that doesn’t matter now, given the task at hand.....lead the way.”

She wiped the decayed brownish blood off of her sword and onto the grass as much as she could, then wiped the rest of it on the greaves of her armor before putting it back into its sheathe.

“Very common.” This chick sure wasn’t too short on words, was she?

“Oh. Great.” 

Reginald didn’t bother to inspect the body: the drowner looked almost human, so he figured that it was likely human once. Whatever the reason for its transformation was, he didn’t want to find out in case it happened to him. 

“Is there any way to keep their numbers down? They’re awfully close to the village.” he noted.

Reginald eyed the man. There was something not right about him. Whether it was the fact that he was sleep deprived or the fact that the man had managed to remain undetected while approaching the camp, he couldn’t tell. 

“I suppose so,” he said. “Are you okay? You look tired.”
