Rivals 2x06 genuinely all-timer television episode
Just heard the word yaoi said out loud for the first time ever and… oh
The idea of Aaron going on the run taking the blame for Adam trying to burn down the garage with Cain inside to get revenge for Cains role in the dissolution of his parents marriage, because he says Moira will need Adam to deal with John’s death (John being the man who once locked Aaron in a shed when he caught him setting fire to his barn). And then years later Adam going on the run while taking the blame for Moira killing Emma because he says the new baby (Kyle!!!) will need Moira. And now Kyle is burning down Aaron’s farm??? Amazing
Not watching so not really got much context for the clip I just saw… but if John had to take Aaron to a cottage to try isolate him from his family and Robert manages it just like that… actually quite funny
Bout to have a complete breakdown working with the sheep in the yards and John Mellencamp’s Jack & Diane came on the speaker.
Sugden’s everywhere for those with eyes to see
(Believe it or not thinking of Jack Sugden did not improve my mood)
I’m trying to imagine the reaction if Paddy tried to give teen Aaron a self help book to help deal with his issues 😂
(Also this is absolutely not knocking Fred but these high stakes emotional scenes are really highlighting just how gooood baby Miller was back in the day)
Fuck it send Aaron to therapy if it means weird background John hissing weird menacing lines
Ok in the light of day that episode still has such an aggressive Robert focus that it’s kind of spooky? Idk if it’s just a consequence of trying to ram A LOT of emotional conflict into a few episodes while setting up the next bit of his storyline or if it’s intentional. I will be going with intentional tho because it’s more fun.
Idk there’s just something in the way Victoria has valid reasons to be angry at Robert, and those got completely overwhelmed by his issues. The way he was a full participant in the whole John’s ashes thing until the final five seconds, knows that that is a very sensitive subject for both Vic and Aaron, and then doesn’t give her a chance past Aaron’s saying “just hear him out” before launching into his whole “habit of a lifetime” bit? Having just once again gone behind both her and Aaron’s backs to make a decision that should involve them??? Can’t even be mad, a classic robertism.
(Aaron actually taking not one but TWO opportunities in the pub to express difficult emotions around the whole John ash thing. Pity Robert is solely focused on stopping Vic leaving. I’m paying attention tho Aaron x)
Slight rewriting of history aside, obsessed with Robert’s single minded focus on the fact that Vic can’t leave him (shades of early 2019). Even more obsessed with him still refusing to respect her decision to leave, and going ahead planning out a future in farming for her (I’ll drag her back if I have too). Heartwarming or horrifying? Remember that time her brother had a bit of a mental break due to the pressure of trying to preserve their dad’s legacy???? What could go wrong this time round
You know back in the day Robert’s solution to Victoria wanting to move out of the village with her child and Diane would’ve been to just kill the guy responsible
If I deep it there’s something amazing about it being Victoria, the one trapped as supporting character to Robert since his return(s), who ends up having to apologise to Robert for her father and brothers sins
Just a touch too drunk to organise any real thoughts on that episode, but something ive been thinking about for a while is i kinda think there should be more religion with Charles. As messy as my thoughts on religion are sometimes, it feels like they try to dodge any real religious topics with him a lot of the time, but then he's not used enough to feel like a "pillar of the community", so some of the ways he is just inserted into a narrative as some kind of counsellor feels weird and mismatched. And like if you're going to have a vicar in the village, do something with that!!! Explore that!!!
Sooo… does the whole support Robert with rebuilding his family legacy and fighting the Tates thing happen with Aaron having no knowledge of the passport situation?
Oh yeah no way that could blow up
God what a Gordian knot of a situation we have found ourselves in!!!
Have a rambling train of thoughts mainly written at like 2am in the hope my brain will shut up and go to sleep:
Kind of losing it at Robert getting all offended by Victoria's implication that he has no conscience yesterday, only for her to catch him telling Joe about her pesky "moral backbone" impeding their plans today
And graham continues to act like Joe was a perfect saint in their first stint and this is all Kim’s fault????
(I am once again reminded of the other time he sent someone’s vulnerable younger sister down to further his own agenda, and that’s really the tip of the iceberg)
Do have to laugh a bit every time Robert and Vic have some form of the conversation where Vic says "No Robert I can't just be OK with this because EYE have a conscience👀" and Robert gets all offended
...like mate Vic doesn't even know the HALF of the things you've done and sisters-in-law you've killed. Maybe just give the emotionally distraught woman a pass
