ever since the early 2000s when a couple brain-dead frat boys on campus said "Cute skirt" at me and giggled, I've worn kilts pretty much every day
because to hell with the delicate gender-enforcing losers who don't understand the origins of kilts, to hell with people sticking their noses into other people's choices, and to hell with the whole notion of gendered clothing
camera shutters kind of sound like taking a bite of a crisp apple because a camera takes a bite of the light in the air
my fav calvin n hobbes joke and no one ever puts it anywhere
I will forever remember that when I explained the concept of fanfiction and fanart to my grandmother as well as AO3 she got very emotional about how brave and strong young people are to willingly and openly share the art they make with strangers.
The thought of sharing art that wasn't deemed acceptable by an authority was so awe inspiring to her
She took it to mean young people are braver and smarter than her generation
Tell your grandmother about the history of fandom. Of housewives writing Star Trek fic by typewriter or by hand and mailing it across the country to their friends. About zines and fan rings. About the art and the writing giving these women an outlet for their thoughts and emotions that they didn’t otherwise have. I’m willing to bet that these founders of fandom are in the same generation as your grandmother. Let her know that her generation set the foundation that modern fandom has built upon. And let her know it’s never too late to start. If she loves something, she can show that love today.
This is a genuinely nice thought, and you had no way of knowing this, but she died about 3 years ago now. But I like to think she would have enjoyed knowing that :)
But also i will add it wasn't just the concept of fandom but of young people sharing their early writing online that struck her as brave and got her excited
My grandmother was horribly abused by her mother and, in a lot of ways, terribly insecure because of her home life in her teenage years. She was a very brave and strong woman, but not when it came to being vulnerable
She never forgot the shame she felt for daring to be vulnerable, and it was something she rarely let herself be. Especially not with something like creative writing.
To her, being a teenager, and letting yourself be vulnerable by putting something creative you made out in to the world to be judged was very praiseworthy and awe-inspiring
And she wasn't wrong! That is something many people would be far too intimidated to do. It's why when I cone across a fic that was clearly written by someone very young I feel proud of the author for putting themselves out there

secret organizations for studying paranormal phenomena are always calling the creatures they find like "specimen 58008" or some fake latin taxonomy or something vague and ominous like "the red angel" or whatever and thats all well and good but i want a story about a bunch of cryptozoologists going around naming things the way people name like actual birds and lizards and shit.
i want to get lost in the woods and meet the ring-tailed tree creeper and roger's false elk. i want a character who is desperate to prove this monster is actually a distinct species from that very similar looking monster so they can name it after themself. i want two field researchers narrowly escaping an encounter with some ten foot tall thing made of carnivorous vines and one of them is like wow wait til the guys back at the lab hear we got that close to a lesser thorn-backed bone eater 🙂 and the other scientist is like.,...... 😰lesser?
thank you for appreciating my boobs calculator joke but the real overlooked gem of this post is rogers false elk. basically this entire post was just an excuse to come up with a hypothetical monster called rogers false elk. its just so pleasing to me. does nobody care him? does nobody but me care for rogers false elk?
their little lopsided heart… ;~;

strattland is so juicy /because/ grace does not really see stratt as a person imo. He comfortably isolates himself from the moral responsibility of the crimes the petrova taskforce commits and as her second pushes all of the weight back to her. no hes just a little science guy, noo, no one important! Grace being utterly checked out to other people's suffering and lack of autonomy is so important because his depersonalisation enables stratt's depersonalisation of herself. of course she wants to keep the guy who likes to keep a wall up all the time and never emotionally connect with someone and who will, inevitably, push all the control back to her, he is reinforcing the narrative she's telling herself! he acts like stratt is just ... like that naturally lmao. completely unaware of the constraints, glass cliff and unbelievable pressure of her position and tbh its giving man who defers all mental load back to the woman he lives with like she is his goddamn mother.
"Its not politcal" shut up weir. stratt could Not be a white man and them have the same dynamic. grace would be the liberal guy who would march beside you right until it got too uncomfortable then turn around and go home and shake his fist at the tv.
then he complains when she turns round and proves she is as ruthless to him as she is to everyone else! rule for thee and not for me!
I do appreciate how the movie made grace less of an ass, cause it gave them a much more genuine little bond. now grace is seeking her out and forcing her to connect to him emotionally because he is visibly afraid and imprinting on her like a little duckling. still refusing to understand the person she has to be and the sacrifice she has to make to abandon anything that stands in the way of the goal, with herself the first casualty.
the book had to legitimately shoot this man into space, meet a fucking alien and entirely relearn and remake connecting through empathy and shared problems for him to develop a real bond of equals with someone. "Someone to be brave for" indeed. I fucking love project hail mary.
so im still getting through system collapse but i love how maybe a chapter in i was like "murderbot. is the redacted you having had a ptsd episode" and. i was RIGHT
After seeing my pronouns, my GP immediately asked me if I had ever experienced sexual assault. I assumed this to be a medical question for some reason and answered, and she was super surprised and confused to find out that I hadn't and couldn't figure out why I'd be nonbinary if I'd never been assaulted. She openly admitted (I didn't even ask) that it wasn't a medical question and she did ask that just because of my pronouns.
When I was a kid I thought Master Chief was gender fluid bc I didn't understand who Cortana was so anytime she talked I just thought it was chief being a girl for that sentence
i hate when a book describes a pause as pregnant. get your dick out of the pause
terry pratchett is the only person who actually knew how to use a pregnant pause
Is the guy in the cuck chair supposed to stay quiet or is he allowed to clap and cheer
he's supposed to take notes and make an intrigued hum when an interesting plot point occurs
one is getting cucked by the bottom and the other is getting cucjed by the top. Subject matter experts discussing the sex like a sports panel
One cuck always lies, the other always tells the truth. You have one question to determine who’s a top and who’s a bottom.
I lose my shit everytime I remember that despite the various differences between Murderbot and Three both of the agree that their modules are terrible.
