This set of four Hyperstimulation XL images are at the Norwest Gallery of Art for the next few weeks as a part of the Abstract show. The opening was one of the best, most fun openings that I have ever been to. Asia Hamilton is rocking it out and I feel so very blessed to be a part of it. As a side note, being at the gallery tonight really helped me reflect on just how far I’ve come in the past year - as an artist, as a person, etc. I recently made Hyperstimulation 0496 - last April, I started with 0001. I’m starting to feel like I’m finally getting somewhere with all of this and I couldn’t do it without the support of all of you. If you’ve been to a show, have one of my pieces hanging on your wall, talked to me about art, taught me a thing or two - you’re in this village and I see you, love you, and appreciate you greatly. Two years ago today, Derek and I did this incredible thing. We convinced a bunch of people that we love to sit outside in 110+ heat to watch us recite Beatles lyrics to each other, come inside to have a waffle bar breakfast, and go break out into a pool party after. I was the calmest I’ve ever been in my life that day. It freaked people out that know me - when have I ever been that calm before anything? A year ago today, we were in NYC celebrating Sam’s national Gold Medal in illustration. So, it’s only fitting to acknowledge how awesome Anthony and Raymond are for both getting a national Silver Medal this year in photography! Getting a Scholastic Award when I was a senior was the first time I was acknowledged outside of my family/social circle as an artist. The fact that my kids are being acknowledged nationally as in the top 1% of student artists in the country blows my mind. They are so amazing! Last night I had the surreal experience of attending the graduation of Theresa and Emily, two of my BABIES in the 7th grade during my first year of teaching at KWoods. I scoured my stuff and I know I have more somewhere, but I found a few pictures from when they were in middle school. 😂 To say I’m proud is an understatement.
