This is exposure, it’s a form of torture, it’s detrimental to physical and psychological health, and it’s potentially life-threatening. Continued exposure to cold without proper insulation saps energy causing fatigue and inhibiting immune response; in people with vulnerable immune systems or preexisting conditions exacerbated by fatigue, this can result in life-threatening escalation of symptoms and/or acquisition of acute illness the tortured body cannot fight off.
