Currently ranked 7th in the world, professional kitesurfer Stefan Spiessberger is accustomed to traveling the globe from one gorgeous beach to another. But what happens when this small-town boy from Austria decides to go exploring the concrete jungle of New York City? He does it his way, of course!
Dressed in MARC O’POLO Denim for Fall/Winter 2016 and armed with his favorite skateboard, Stefan looks right at home in the world’s most iconic cityscape, whether slaloming through the streets of Chinatown, rifling through vinyl at a Williamsburg record store or just kicking back on the G-train.
Still, it’s only a matter of time before Stefan, the embodiment of MARC O’POLO’s ‘Follow Your Nature’ philosophy, is drawn to the water. Exploring nearby Long Island, he discovers Tobay Beach, its smooth surface and constant winds offering the perfect conditions for a world-class freestyler to do his thing.
Back in New York City, Stefan’s passion is fueled. But how can he reconcile his urban location with his true nature as a kitesurfer? There’s only one answer—an expedition into New York Harbor. Setting off in a fishing boat from the New Jersey docks, he prepares to make kitesurfing history. With the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline as his backdrop, Stefan finds the sweet spot between the river current and the winds. For two hours, he glides among tankers and cruise ships and delights the crowds on the Staten Island ferry. But most of all, he delights himself.
“As the kite was in the air, and I stood on my board, I knew I would never forget this session,” Stefan recalls. “Seeing the Statue of Liberty upside down during a back loop is definitely not something you do every day. Afterwards, each one of our crew had a laugh in his face. Mine, however, was the biggest!”
Stay tuned for more urban kitesurf adventures with MARC O’POLO Denim ambassador Stefan Spiessberger!

13 year old Lena from Berlin is the winner of our #MOPjunior star contest! She is the new face of the Marc O'Polo Junior Spring / Summer Campaign 2017 featuring the band Glasperlenspiel. First, she personally met the two band members at their sold-out live concert at X-TRA in Zurich and accompanied them backstage. After her personal encounter with Caro and Daniel, she had to quickly find her place in the front row before the start of the concert and was thrilled by the performance. Overrun with many new impressions but exhausted, she then very happily went to her bed. She had just lived one of her big dreams!
Eloquent member of the avant-garde. Bona fide rebel. Active feminist. A fashion authority and source of inspiration. Breathes feminine life into the male-dominated world of art. For its Fall/Winter 2016 campaign, MARC O’POLO DENIM keeps the focus on a new generation of confident, creative young urbanites who are making their mark on contemporary style and culture. Continuing in the spirit of last season’s campaign, the images feature a multicultural cast of strong individuals, unconventional yet natural, with a contemporary spirit that always shines through.
To photograph the campaign, MARC O’POLO turned once again to Bruce Weber protégé Sean Thomas, who has a natural affinity for the emerging generation, having shot its leading figures for magazines such as American Vogue. Thomas injects the images with his own fresh and youthful nature, while stylist Ursina Gysi adds the modern, fashion-forward touch that has made her an international style icon.
The new campaign was shot in Paris. The city’s multicultural mix and contemporary bohemian flair were guiding inspirations for the F/W16 collection, which is characterized by denim with personality and garments that tell stories—of paint- spattered ateliers, repaired thrift-store treasures, and intense urban living of the kind only Paris can provide.
For Fall/Winter 2016, the MARC O’POLO campaign features new, unique characters in the form of renowned Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and Dutch beauty Lara Stone. There have been changes behind the camera too, no less than the internationally famed photographer Peter Lindbergh was in charge of the shoot. Just like the collection itself, this season’s campaign has been stripped back to basics: of-the moment simplicity paired with authentic nonchalance.
Authentic. Natural. Timeless. These are the central themes of our Fall/Winter 2016 collection. These very qualities also embody our new campaign ambassadors Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and Dutch supermodel Lara Stone, photographed by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh. Now, have an exclusive look behind the scenes of the shoot and stay tuned – more to come soon!
Magdalen Islands, Canada: Northern Canada might not be the first place to come to mind when you think of the best kitesurfing spots, but that’s exactly what our MARC O’POLO DENIM ambassador and pro kite surfer Stefan Spiessberger discovered during his trip to Quebec’s maritime region. Breathtaking landscapes, friendly locals and gorgeous waterfronts provided the perfect backdrop for a whirlwind trip. »I’ve never felt more welcomed in any other spot. This trip goes into my top 3 kitesuring destinations for sure!» remarks Stefan.

Having pursued a life of wanderlust in the past, including numerous years spent in New York, Spanish-bred Claudia de Pablo settled down in Paris with her husband a year ago. Together they built the Tramuntana brand to offer individually tailored perfumes. The name of the brand holds a special meaning for de Pablo: Tramuntana, the largely untouched area of the island where she grew up, bears her fondest memories.
De Pablo’s attraction to scents arose early. Whenever she had a new perfume, she would run into somebody on the street with the same perfume. This lack of exclusivity bothered her. She explains, »I wasn't fond of sharing something of such intimate quality – something worn on my skin – with others.» Despite her lack of professional training in perfume making, her inner nature, an extreme perceptiveness to scents, guided her way in founding her own perfume brand. Of MARC O’POLO clothes, Claudia says: »They are simple, classy pieces and comfortable. I like them for their clear cuts and premium quality.»

Tarifa, Spain: Good vibes, blue skies, endless sun and lots of wind – perfect conditions for a kitesurfer. This small town in Spain is one of Stefan Spiessberger’s favorite places in southern Europe for good reason. And on days with no wind, not exactly ideal weather for practicing kitesurfing, it’s the perfect place to take a break and spend the day at the beach with your favorite people, laughing, taking funny pictures and enjoying the water. »No chance to not fall in love with that place,» says Stephan. Understandable, no?
We are proud to present the 3rd edition of our charitable «mindfulness« T-shirt collection. Developed with actor Jeff Bridges, the collection supports a cause very dear to him – mindful awareness. Derived from Buddhist meditation techniques, the concept of mindfulness is about striving for a conscious, focused perception of the world around us. As a board member of The Institute of Compassionate Awareness (T.I.C.A.), Jeff Bridges has been practicing and promoting mindful meditation for many years. With over 60,000 pieces sold to date, the collection has raised over $125,000 for T.I.C.A.

MARC O’POLO DENIM is proud to announce its sponsorship of and collaboration with professional kiteboarder Stefan Spiessberger.
With his unrivaled passion for kitesurfing, his easygoing confidence in himself and natural sense of cool, Stefan is the embodiment of MARC O’POLO’s ‘Follow Your Nature’ philosophy and the perfect representative for Denim’s fresh, modern, uncomplicated approach to fashion.
Raised near Austria’s Lake Traunsee, Stefan discovered his passion for kiteboarding at the age of 17. In just four years, he was ranked among the top three in Europe and shortly after the top 10 of the world.
For Stefan, following his nature means doing feats on the water that others can’t believe. «I can ride as fast as I want,« he says. «I can jump as high as I want, and that’s a kind of freedom and creativity that I really love—a feeling that I’m following, that I’m still trying to get, every day of my life.« MARC O’POLO DENIM supports Stefan off the water with natural, confident clothing that leaves him free to be himself.
