It's 2024, but it feels like 2016...
Anyone else having a difficult time organizing their thoughts after this election cycle?
A lack of decency wins again.
Hate wins again.
A lack of accountability and the critical thinking necessary to self-asses your own belief system wins again.
I think the most insane part of all this is that before 2016, I felt like we lived in the same world as those that had opposing viewpoints as us. Now it feels like we live on two separate planets. No one fact checks anything. No one second guesses what they read/watched on social media. You say a fact, and they gaslight you. They deny. I wonder how they figured out that if you simply keep saying something isn't true (even though there is a video evidence of that thing) you can get away with anything??? Keep your head buried in the sand. If you never come out, you're safe from the truth.
This is why I have *always* preferred written, reputable journalistic news articles to any video or news clip. When you write something, you have to have some organization and research. Then there is the whole editing process. The associated press has standards. When you listen to or watch something, people tend to go off script and they let emotions run rampant. Those emotions are transferable, I am less likely to think critically when I watch something than when I read it--and I am sure I'm not the only one. Everyone should fact check their sources, but a real conversation can only occur when both sides are willing to do this...and one side has absolutely no interest because they see no gains in accountability.
You can only eat together if you're sitting together at the same table...on the same planet...
