Get Good || Margot & Arya's Duel
Saturday morning, Arya and Margot both met up at the fencing rooms to follow through on their duel. Assuming that Margot didn’t have a sword of her own, Arya borrowed a friend from the fencing team’s longsword and helmet, giving them to Margot.
Unlike other duels she’d participated in before, Arya came without her usual entourage. As she’d been fighting since she was four, she didn’t think it was necessary to bring other people to witness the abject humiliation that was going to occur.
As she was in a good mood, Arya offered Margot the opportunity to apologize and yield, as a way to exit the duel without getting hurt or losing face.
Though she had never fought with swords before, Margot remained true to form, taunting Arya and calling her a princess once more.
Whatever semblance of chill Arya had flew out the window and she tossed the helmet she’d borrowed for Margot at her, demanding that the match start immediately.
As soon as an impromptu referee called for the duel to begin, Arya attacked Margot with ruthless efficiency. Instead of just lightly tapping her like she had originally planned, Arya landed blow after blow against the younger girl. If it had been a fist fight, things might have gone differently, but Margot eventually called for Arya to yield.
Obeying the rules of engagement, Arya stopped and offered Margot a hand up. But, her gesture was ignored as Margot limped away from the fencing rooms.
While Arya might have beaten Margot, no one really won the duel. There wasn’t anything fun about obliterating someone who was so unskilled for Arya. And Margot’s ego was bruised, spurring her to begin her next plans to knock the princess of Camelot down a peg.
