Joan returned the smile with a small one of her own. “ Thanks, I just wish it didn’t have happened.”
“Hey, I’m sure.... the heat will die down once the next big thing comes out...” Sadly, there was always a next thing.
tatumxking:
Tatum looked at her when she said she kept doing it. “You can tell me to bugger off but if it keeps happening maybe you should let me buy you another cup of coffee while you dump some of your troubles out on me.”
Mari chuckled softly. “That’s very nice but I’m sure you don’t want to listen to all my silly problems.”

Joan hesitated slightly before nodding her head at the question, “ I will be once this whole newspaper story blows over…” She told her shortly after placing the paper someplace else.
Marianne offered her a soft smile. “For what it’s worth... I’m sorry. It’s wrong it’s on the front page like that.”
Joan was on her way to her job when she noticed everyone was starting to stare at her. It made her feel uncomfortable, she had no idea why everyone was staring until someone shoved the newspaper in her face and her eyes went wide. “ Oh god… Oh no no no no.” She panically ran to her work and hid inside for the rest of the evening. “ I cannot believe this is happening…” She muttered softly. Her secret as an escort, living off her body before fully living here in Baberton is out. How? How did they find out about this?? How can her life be crumbling down in front of her? @secretsummerstarters
Marianne was walking along the street when she noticed the woman. Someone shoved a newspaper at her and she suddenly ran away, looking shocked or something. Mari moved over and scanned the paper curiously before she frowned and turned to look after the woman. Before she knew why, she was moving in the direction and pushing inside the place, looking around for her. “Hi... um. Sorry, I just.... are you alright?”
tatumxking:
Tatum smiled when she said she was alright. “I don’t mean to pry.” He offered, letting out a small chuckle. He nodded at the empty chair, moving to sit down with her. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” She smiled at him, shrugging at his previous comment. “And don’t even worry about it... really. I keep doing that lately, spacing out, I probably look mental.” She tried for a joke.
tatumxking:
Tatum gave the woman a small smile. “I was just asking if you were alright. You seemed…preoccupied.”
She smiled lightly, shaking her head. “Oh, yeah.. I’m fine. Totally good... just have a bit on my mind today.” She chuckled, gesturing to the empty chair. “Don’t suppose you’d like to join me?”
wallace-griffin:
“Oh, I was just wondering if you could hand me that sugar next to you.” Wallace took a moment. “Are you okay?”
“Sure thing, yeah.” Marianne nodded, turning to grab the sugar so she could hand it to him, offering a little smile. “Oh, I’m fine -- tired, you know. Thanks.”
ross-powell:
Ross raised a brow slightly, looking over at his wife with concern. “Just wondering what the plan was for dinner tonight.” He stated, looking over at her for a moment. “Are you okay, love?”
“Sorry, honey... I’m fine.” She shook her head. “Um... I’m not sure, do you want to order in? Or I could whip up a stir fry or something.”
Marianne blinked, bringing herself back to the moment and looking up at the person in front of her. How long had they been standing there? “I’m so sorry.... what?” Mari winced, a little embarrassed.

“I’m so afraid now. You’re always wondering… who’s going to die next?”
→ Background
Marianne has lived in Baberton her whole life. She was always a shy girl growing up, quiet and mostly in the background. She was always pretty but because of her shyness boys didn’t really take much interest. Well, not many boys anyway, but one Ross Powell noticed her quite a lot. He was a little older so they weren’t in the same classes and met by chance one day through a friend, but since they were teenagers he’d been practically courting her and seemed desperate to make her his. Trouble with Marianne was that she was desperately insecure, especially about her weight and her body. She was in no way near overweight but she’d been bullied a lot through her childhood and “fat” is a favourite one for people to throw around, as if it’s the worst thing you can be. For Marianne, that’s sort of what it became. She developed a bit of an eating disorder. Some days she would starve and others she would binge and then purge. It made her feel very disgusting, undesirable, and pathetic. Why would Ross want to be with her? As soon as he got to know her he’d be put off, right?
Marianne eventually agreed to go on a few dates with him and they kind of hit it off. Her issues caused them to be a bit on and off though and she’d have bad days and be weird with him and not call him back or something. She really thought he would get fed up but for some reason Ross stuck at it and they were both eventually married, the happiest day of Marianne’s sad little life. As she got older, and more secure with her marriage and herself, some of her hangups and insecurities went away, which she was happy about. The bullying stopped, she had friends and a husband who loved her… and wanted children with her one day. It seemed like the couple had it all.
→ Back to Baberton
Baberton is a scary place to live right now. All the murders are insane and Marianne worries a great deal for people, especially the children of her friends as she’s already seen a few people she cares about lose the most important things in their life. That would be such a dreadful thing and she can’t even imagine the pain people are feeling right now. She wishes Baberton could just go back to the way it was and whoever was doing this would just… stop. Murders aside, she has quite a lovely little life. Her husband seems a little less… bright these days but things seem to be hard for him and Marianne loves him so she tries not to question him about it. She works part time, just to get out of the house and get some extra money since teacher’s don’t make as much as you think they should. She works at her friend Josie Williamson’s flower store, mostly just on the weekends. Marianne doesn’t really know much about flowers but she likes the store, it’s pretty and smells good, and the customers are usually easy.
When Ross’ brother died in a car accident earlier in the year, it was a very tough blow for the family, especially their children. Maddy and Oscar were suddenly without their parents, their lives turned upside down. When Ross suggested the two move here from Essex, Marianne was quick to agree. It was only right and it would be nice to have some other people round the house. The kids are very sad, which is expected, but Marianne worries about Maddy the most. She seems severely depressed and she wishes she could help more. She’s growing quite close to them both and is glad they’re here, though she knows it’s making her husband wish for kids again now that he sees how Marianne is with them. They’ve been trying to have a child for years but unfortunately nothing seems to work for them.
→ What’s Her Secret?
Has been taking birth control pills since she got married, despite knowing that her husband has always wanted children of his own. Marianne feels awful about it, she really does, but she has so many insecurities about her body still, her weight especially, that being pregnant has just never appealed to her. Getting fat like that just freaks her out and the actual giving birth part? No. Marianne has this fear, it just takes hold, and though she’d like to have a child, especially with Ross, she just cannot bring herself to get pregnant. It’s embarrassing and she knows she should just tell him the truth but it sounds so ridiculous. Ross just gets so animated when he talks about having kids with her and… she’s never had the heart to ruin it for him.
Was prescribed anti-depressants and anti-psychotics by a doctor when she was in her early thirties for her mood disturbances and has been refilling her prescriptions ever since. Marianne, however, stopped taking the pills years ago, still getting her scripts and acting like she’s taking them, but she felt strange on them. Instead of telling a doctor and getting them changed she simply stopped them altogether. Marianne hasn’t yet noticed that these have started going missing since her niece and nephew came to stay with them.
