The capital city of Tuscany, Floence - the birthplace of the Renaissance and a favorite place to visit for artists from all around the world. Florence -coined from the name of the Roman goddess of flowers ’’Flora’’ the name of the city, Florence means ’’Land with the blooming flowers’’ or ’’the blooming land’’ -This has been the citys trademark since year 1200, where the tradening starts to break through. Since then this beautiful historic city has become renowned for its many famous artists and architecture. Now the city center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. San Lorenzo is placed in the middel of this area. But when this old historic Basilica was build, it was standing outside the citywalls and is now standig in the middel of this tourist mecca, looking as nothing has changed. The intention with the facade of San lorenzo, was a great marble structure, proposed by Michelangelo. The marble blocks was cutted, ready to be put together, when the Pope cancelled the project -some says it was because Michelangelo had to leave the city to travel to Rome and paint the sixteen chapel, some says it was due to budget problemes, since Michelagelo wanted to use expensive Cararra marble. This bright white Cararra Marble blocks will now be used in this new proposal, and be placed as it was the plan from the start back in 1515.
