WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO TALK TO ME ABOUT A BAD GAME I HAD
Also, I'm fully aware that my posts have stop since my first bout. I'm hoping that is to change soon; I've been crazy busy with jobs.
The next bout is soon and it's probably going to be the last one of the season for me because I'm getting the surgery for my shoulder.
But updates soon!! I promise!!
There was an open scrimmage tonight, but I couldn't go because of work (as usual). BUT, my old coach was there and everyone had a chance to hit her and I didn't because I was at workkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
There are many things in life that will catch your eyes, but only a few will catch your heart…pursue those.
Michael Nolan (via psych-facts)
If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery—isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.

If you know you’re trying hard in the right direction, then the effort and the journey should be making you happy. If you’re trying hard in the wrong direction, it’ll just hurt.

WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A PART OF THE ROLLER DERBY COMMUNITY
WHEN WE’RE NOT BOUTING
WHEN WE ARE
My First Bout
Holy fuck. I don't remember much.
The first jam I played in, I wasn't lead jammer but I caught up to the lead jammer before she could make it to the pack and score points. I knocked her out of bounds. That was a fabulous start.
Then. Oh, fuck. This shit's embarrassing. Next jam I played I was called on a penalty and as I was entering the box, my teammate was leaving and we fucking collided. Apparently, I got the worst half of it because I was going much faster and I got knocked off the ground and fucking flipped with skates in the air.
You guys. My Grandma was there to witness that.
So, I laid there for a little bit. Definitely slow to get up. And skated to the penalty box. I sat there for a little bit and the NSO said "2718, you're done". I thought he meant I was ejected because of interference with a skater coming onto the track so I started to skate towards my bench and everyone was yelling at me to get back on the track.
It was bad. So, so, so, so, so bad.
But yeah. I don't remember much after that. It's all a blur.
Some things I do remember:
- I was jamming (not lead) and caught up to the lead jammer again and I was just able to label her, but she called it off. I was crouched and everything As I skated back to the bench my coach yelled, "I saw that look. And I like it".
- There was power jam at one point and I scored a bunch of points and my teammate told me that I caught them up (I know it was a power jam, but I don't remember how many points I scored).
- I got elbowed in the face several times.
That's basically about it.
I was told by my family at one point I was jamming and this lady knocked me down and I got up and instead of skating past her, I ran into her and knocked her down. I have no recollection of doing that.
All I know is I was completely out of it. I had no idea what was going on, and it was all because of that collision. We hit fucking hard.
Afterwards one of the other team's coaches came up to me and said, "you're fucking fast. Some people have stereotypes about body types and their physical ability and you blow those out of the water." That was cool.
OH, and I also won MVP Blocker. I have no idea how. I don't remember blocking all that much. My boo won MVP Jammer, that was pretty awesome. I wish I could remember more.
My first ever bout breakfast: 3 eggs with ham and a banana.
It's bout eve of my first bout and I'm freaking the fuck out.
I'm fucking jammer AND I'm fucking co-captain.
WHAT THE FUCK.
Practice was eh.
I'M FUCKING BOUTING ON FUCKING SUNDAY!!!!
We talked a lot about the notes the bench coaches made when they visited us on Monday, and we did some drills.
HOLY FUCK. IT'S SO CLOSE.
We scrimmaged and before we did that I asked one of the board members where she expected to play me on Sunday and she said she wants me jamMING!!!

I'm so happy. It's me, her, and one of lady who is going to be doing most of the jamming.

Yeah. I'm pretty pumped.
WHEN I FALL IN FRONT OF A PHOTOGRAPHER DURING A BOUT.
DYING.
So, this is good news. I not only made the roster, but I also am co-captain*!!
And we had a shit practice that involved a lot of talking, but there was several mentions of me jamming.
Then there was this huge Facebook convo about the after party and plans on everyone getting drunk. I'm really pumped about drinking with my team (is that a weird desire?). I'm going to get drunky drunk.
*I'm not exactly sure what my responsibilities are, but it sounds super impressive.
Team USA are having tryouts and Lola Blow is in the scrimmage portion. I'm so incredible jealous. I WANT THAT SO BADLY.
God damn.
Slow and steady. I'll get there.
I'm sorry for ignoring you, blog. We really haven't been doing anything except scrimmaging.
One of the ladies who is involved with making the roster came up to me after our endurance and told me she wants me on a certain lady on the other team the whole bout. That pretty much insures that I'm going to play iN A FUCKING WEEK OMG. IT'S SO SOON.
Then the same lady messaged me on Facebook and asked if a bunch of us were leaving the team for another derby team. It's super flattering that she thinks we would make it, but I reassured her we weren't leaving. AND WE STAYED UP UNTIL 3 FUCKING O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING TALKING.
A lady on my team had 14 y.o. brother that passed away 2 years ago. The family build a foundation for him and host several fundraising events. They hosted a 5K and I went because it was literally 4 minutes away from my house and because I really care for all the ladies on my team.
This is us. Her name is Betty Block'her.
WHEN EVERYONE AROUND YOU KEEPS FALLING.
I'm dying this is so accurate.
