If you are every trying to figure out who a male character's favorite child is if you can apply these principles (P.I.G.) to the dynamic they have with their pseudo daughter you already have the answer:

P - Project the innocence you lost onto her

I - Infantilize her because of that innocence have her remain a child in your mind despite her growing up

G - Gatekeep her by not telling her any important information about the threats she may face while also not teaching her how to protect herself because you'll be there to save her duh
