That Is Not How Mario Kart Works

So uh Sopranos S1 Episodes 3 and 4

Perhaps I'm just in a different mindset today, but I am now firmly in "Enjoying this show" mode.

I'm almost having a hard time digesting it all. It almost seems like the end of 4 is where the show is beginning in proper. It's not like there was nothing going on beforehand, more that each story was in service for the foundation of what this first chunk of the show will be about.

And I'm on board! There are a couple things from the show I know going in. One being Tony's evolving relation with his doctor, the other the very famous end. And while the ending is still far out, I can already see how the former is building. And I'm interested in all the familial drama.

What really made me feel like it was a beginning was the funeral scene. All the major actors are present. Tony's son is growing skepticism already present in his daughter. He's made a big move to placate one of his more dangerous family members. The rest of the crew all paying their respects. Where do we go from here?

One scene I really liked was when Tony handed his mom the Macaroons. For half a second she had this child-like wonder in her eyes, then her mind caught up and realized she was supposed to be angry and denied them.

It's also really funny in many moments which I'm appreciating. It is striking a wonderful balance between drama and levity.

I'm not a prayin' man, but the night I found out my at-the-time-fiancé had been sending sex horny nasty horny sex asks to my friend on THIS VERY WEBSITE, I sat in the car in the parking lot of an abandoned church and watched a family of deer play in the snow, and it didn't quite feel like a sign because that part of Pennsylvania was mostly deer and abandoned buildings and snow, but it felt nice, and once the tears stopped, I looked down at my phone and my other friend had sent me a text that said, "HE'S TRYING TO CHEAT ON YOU ON THE ONE DIRECTION IMAGINES WEBSITE?" and I realized that life is all about your curated experience. A real choose-your-own-adventure deal. I have never seen someone post about One Direction on here in my life.

The Ducks Are A Metaphor

"Oh No" <- this was the sound of me watching the first episode of The Sopranos and not especially liking it.

I think the structure is what grated against me the most. It's a pilot, so it had the heavy burden of introducing this sprawling family. But what I did not care for was the *sanitized version Tony tells the doctor* cut to *actual brutal event* that split up the entire episode.

Thankfully, the second episode was a much more normal episode of television. It had Tony and his Mom's A plot with the truck jacking B plot and Coffee C plot, with the expectation that A and B will be continued later on in the series.

But. I'm not engrossed. I'm not averse either at least. Its well acted, the characters are likeable (despite their profession), there were some good moments throughout. I enjoyed the church scene, Tony appreciating a past that has been bastardized by his and his father's actions. His adoration for the ducks, scared that his profession and proclivities will chase away his loved ones.

I can appreciate what the show is doing, but I don't actually love any of the characters yet; I'm not eager to see where the plot lines go.

I'm in it for the long haul though, and this has been cited as one of the greatest shows of all time, so I'd like to think it'll get there sooner than later.

Yeah this season sucked. I did not enjoy watching through Shyamalan's filmography. I don't actually think I'm better off for having watched all of them. But I did. And now I'm here.

Not sure if I'm going to start writing about the Sopranos now that that's the next subject (I Am Link Here). But like, I probably will. what else I got going on, y'know?
