Home is an event partner to the Detroit Design Festival 2016, in partnership with Detroit Wick and DC3
Featuring: OUR / DETROIT DJ SUPERDRE / a u x e t I c HUMBLE DESIGN
HOME is an exhibition created to visually explore and contemplate our relationship to the places and articles surrounding us. Does “home” exist in actuality? Is it something constructed in our mental confines to help find peace in our chaotic world? What do we call home? Space under a roof? Under the stars? A sleeping bag? Four walls? A distant memory of a place we used to remember? Detroit based artists Dessi Terzieva, Paula Schubatis, Rachel roze Cuccia, Vineta Chugh and Tony Katai interpret aspects of the representation of “home” unique to their artistic practice. Each working to define the meaning of home in a way which reminds us of population growth, family and memory, abandonment, and the objects we use to create our personal space.
Each piece unifies a relationship between the multifaceted meanings of home while highlighting its utility, shelter, essence, and symbolism while relating to the timely state of the city we call home – Detroit.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the exhibition’s art will be donated to nonprofit Humble Design. Having helped over 600 Metro Detroit families emerging from homelessness, Humble Design provides gently used furnishings to create a welcoming home environment. We ask our guests to join the effort by sponsoring a specific room for a future family. Please visit www.humbledesign.org.
