Hey all! Â Iâve been doing weekly urban nature webcomics with @birdandmoon!
Check âem out!
This weekâs Wild City is about Book Scorpions. The first time I saw one of these, I giggled. Sorry, Book Scorpion.
New Wild City comic! Â About BOOK SCORPIONS!
I donât think that I mentioned this last week, but birdandmoon and I are collaborating on urban nature comics! Â Check out yourwildcity.com every Monday for all the fun stuff that might be chillinâ in your house/backyard/town/city!
HUMAN BODY THEATER is out today! Â This is very first graphic novel that I have both WRITTEN and DRAWN; you might call it my book-baby. Â (This photo was taken in my nerdy, nerdy office.) Â Human Body Theater is 240 pages of comics all about the human body, how it works and how to take good care of it. Â Itâs targeted towards kids ages 10-14, but I hope that kids and adults of all ages will enjoy it. Â Iâll be posting a list of Human Body Theater-related events later today (including my whole schedule for New York Comic Con). WOOOOO!!! Â GUTS!!!!!!!
You can order a copy here, or pick one up from your favorite bookstore.
(Oh, and this is where I got my awesome organs shirt: https://www.threadless.com/product/3016/Hugs_Keep_Us_Alive )
New book cover reveal!!  Thatâs right; I wrote and illustrated a comic book about coral reefs!  It wonât be out until May 2016, but you can read lovely write-up and preview from Betsy Bird of School Library Journal here: http://blogs.slj.com/afuse8production/2015/09/16/maris-wicks-cover-reveal-coral-reefs/
In less than a month, Human Body Theater will be making its debut(t)!  Have you ever wanted to read a 240-page comic book about your very own fantastic human body?  Well, now you can.  This book includes classic hits like âWhy Do We Yawn?â, âHow Does a Cut Get Infected?â and âWhere Do Farts Come From?â.  There are elaborate dance routines by oxygen molecules in tutus and a chorus line of infectious diseases (because I though everyone would want to see a bacterium in fishnet stockings).
Iâll be posting some teasers from the book over the next few months, so stay tuned!
Look for Human Body Theater on Oct 6 (or you can pre-order it here)!
I live-streamed the DARPA Robotics Challenge over the weekend, and then was...inspired (to draw robots). I really wish that there was a âfreestyleâ event, where the robots could just dance, or make breakfast, or play hopscotch.
Inkin'.
