Lord of Shadows Contest

I have FIVE ARCs of Lord of Shadows to give away! Here’s how you enter the contest: Take a picture of yourself holding a copy of any Shadowhunters book you already own. (Foreign editions are totally fine. Ereaders are OK as long as there’s a visible image of the TITLE PAGE on the screen.) Try to make your the picture creative. For example, you could take the picture in an interesting location, include elements of what you love about the books, or wear a costume. (You don’t have to go anywhere elaborate to do this: one girl won a contest like this for taking a picture in a bathtub full of spaghetti!)

No Photoshop This is about love for the books and having fun, not showing off your (totally awesome) photoship skillz, plus we don’t want to exclude people without Photoshop.

Post your picture to social media: tumblr, twitter, facebook, instagram, Snapchat. Whatever your favorite platform is. Then email the link to that post to [email protected] before May 16. We have to be able to click the link and see the image so it must be publicly available. If it is on a private or locked account we can’t see it so we can’t judge it. The contest will end in a week (May 16, midnight EST). Winners will be contacted shortly after the contest ends and LOS will be express mailed to them so they get it before it is released. This contest is open to readers all over the world, ages 13 and up. One entry per person.

Cordelia was alone in the hallway. Squaring her shoulders, she pushed open the door to James’ room.

She had never been in a boy’s bedroom before, and it was quite a scandalous action to enter now, but the significance of it seemed small, swallowed up by her worry. James was half under the covers of the bed, moving restlessly from side to side, his face flushed with fever. His nightclothes clung to him, wet with sweat. It was a bright day outside and sunlight speared through the room, illuminating the bowls of burning herbs that Enoch had left behind.

James rolled toward her. His eyes, the color of sunlight, blinked open slowly. “Matthew?” he said. “Matthew, is that you?”

Hi! You will definitely get to know all three more. One of the fun things about writing series books is that in each book, you can get to know the characters you’ve already introduced or hinted at better and more deeply. We will see Jaime, and learn more about his and Diego’s family, their secrets and their demanding past. Cristina also does often think about Mexico since she is a little homesick. And I had a lot of fun doing research in and about Mexico!

Thoughts of home tore at Cristina. Her mother, her cousins. Better,past days with Diego and Jaime: She remembered a weekend she hadspent with them once, tracking a demon in the dilapidated ghosttown of Guerrero Viejo. The dreamlike landscape all around them:half-drowned houses, feathery weeds, buildings long discolored bywater. She had lain on a rock with Jaime under uncountable stars,and they had told each other what they wanted most in the world:she, to end the Cold Peace; he, to bring honor back to his family.

Ty climbed up onto the porch beside Kit and sat down. He smelled faintly of desert, sand and sage. Kit thought of the way he liked the sound of Ty’s voice: It was rare to hear someone get that kind of sincere pleasure out of simply sharing information, but Ty did.

“Why are you outside?” Ty asked. “Are you thinking about running away again?”

“No,” Kit said. He wasn’t, really. Maybe a little. Looking at Ty made him not want to think about it. It made him want to discover a mystery so he could present it to Ty for solving, the way you might give someone who loved candy a box of See’s.
