Stylish Students
This brief was set to push us out of our comfort zone by making us approach strangers and ask them if we can take their photo.
At first I was a bit nervous as its not something I'm used to doing in photography, even though I have done it before its not something I do often and I haven't done it in a while.
I'm happy with my results and I feel like as the day went on it got a lot easier to ask people.

Rush Hour
This brief was really fun as it opened a new style of shooting to me, fast paced and subtle. Whilst shooting this brief I very rarely lifted my camera above my waist and shot a lot of it on burst taking as many images as I could whilst not being 100% sure if I would get the shot I wanted.
The brief required us to show the energy and grit of Glasgow as a city through the people that inhabit it. My approach was to just wander around, shoot from the hip and try and capture the people of the city as they rush about their busy days.

Wait for It
This task was more about patience, Framing and considering multiple elements of the image rather than just getting as many images as you can as quickly as you can.
This task was difficult as I had to not only find a good position to take the image from but also think of something good to take an image of. I had a few ideas as I was walking about town but ultimately ended up with one involving a mural.
My original plan for the image was to have a bird land on the tip of the murals hand but I never managed to get that shot, I did however get some good ones of birds flying near the mural that almost make it look like the mural is releasing them.

Photo Sprint
In our first official week we were given the task of trying to get as many photos as we could from a list in 2 hours.
The Images we had to get were:
A student with the backdrop of a college building for an article about how exciting Freshers week is.
Congested traffic for an article about roadworks.
Glasgow shoppers – an article about how quiet the retail sector is.
Restaurants - article asks ‘Are there too many restaurants in Glasgow?'
Autumnal fashion article on boots and scarves
Cycle Lanes – article asks ‘Are they good or bad for Glasgow?’
Glasgow voted friendliest city top ten. Find an image which portrays this.
Article about problem with inconsiderate parking in Glasgow.
This was an incredibly difficult task and shows just how hard it is to race against time and try and get images not only quickly, but also of a high quality.

Rounded View - Construction
As I was moving house when this brief was issued I didn't manage to get the images required of the Glasgow bin strikes.

Rounded View - Bin Strikes Best Images
Within our group, we decided between us that these images best sold the story of the bin strikes. They show a context for the city and also show the severity and the adaptability of the public as they all contend and deal with the issue as they continue on their day to day lives.
Architecture Evaluation
I was excited to try out this project as architecture was something I have never really thought of much or shot before but had always interested me. Making us take a variety of images of both the outside and inside of a building also helped put some creative constraints on the project that made me think a bit harder about where I would like to photograph. The stipulation that some of the images had to be edited with a perspective warp was also exciting as I love finding new techniques and ways of doing things in photoshop.
As I eventually chose the Glasgow Cathedral, I found the most entertaining part of the project to be taking my images and exploring. Using different areas of the cathedral and the surrounding areas to get a better vantage point of the building and find some unique areas to photograph was really rewarding. As the cathedral is a tourist hot spot it forced me to exercise some patience as I had to often wait until large groups of people had moved on so I could get my shots.
The us of the perspective warp tool was interesting and actually quite intuitive. After a short demo by the lecturers it was quite simple to go in myself and play around with the different angles and get a look and feel that I liked for my shots. It would be interesting to see what other ways I could use this technique and how it could be applied to my work in the future.
When researching this project I looked at a number of different photographers including, Inessa Binenbaum, Ari Spada and Berenice Abbot, who all showed very different ways of capturing architecture. For my images I wanted to channel their attention to detail and showcase some of the more interesting aspects of the cathedral.
I believe the most successful part of my project is the images as a set. I feel like they capture a lot of the buildings character and showcase the true spectacle and scale of the building from the outside and show the ornate, darker details of the inside.
The only problem I really encountered when undergoing this project was that on my first shoot I didn’t have all of the equipment necessary so I made a list and plan for the second day and brought everything I needed with me.
Given the chance to start again I may have visited another couple of buildings and underwent the full process to see if I could get any better images elsewhere but with that being said I am happy with how my images turned out and was happy with my choice of building to photograph. Finding great examples of old gothic architecture can be difficult in a major city but Glasgow is lucky to have the influence of this architecture all around us on a daily basis.

Perspective Warp Process:
First you must copy the background layer to use as the warp layer. This lets you compare to the original and work non destructively.
Secondly you go to the edit menu drop down and select the perspective warp option.
You must then place the warp boundary around the subject you wish to warp.
Then change the mode on the top left to warp and move the corners of the boundary to warp the subject to your liking. You can turn the layer on and off to see the effects.
