Like idk. It’s so sweet to see this other world where Rocky and Grace are still this domesticly sweet w each other. They still care about each other and are best friends who ragebait each other. In some worlds they were oddballs in college that found each other, in others they worked together on something and found out they were the person child them needed. It’s so cute.

And Adrian. The best one out there. They’re always so SO cool and accomplished. Big “queen that laughs at their jester” vibes. They’re always the sweeter voice of reason, and are always wholeheartedly adoring of the people they care about. I love how they’re also always “bad as hell, statement” too LMAO.

The problem is, Grace DOESN'T know who he is, but everyone else does. That's why they all look so confused. They all believe in him, they know how smart he is, they all know he can do this, but Grace doesn't.

Reading PHM discourse and people are championing in the comments saying that Grace is “heavily implied” to be aroace.

Let me preface this by saying that I am queer myself and have absolutely nothing wrong with those who headcanon queer characters or are aroace themselves.

I feel, though, that arguing and fighting people over a ship because you have a headcanon is unnecessary. Yes I’ve seen the hc that Grace is aroace. But it’s not “heavily implied” in the book/movie. It’s not even mentioned. It’s barely suggested. Stratt mentions that Grace doesn’t have anyone close to him, not even a dog.

I can’t fathom how that is immediately taken as fact and proof that he’s aroace. He’s lonely. He’s supposed to be kind of a loser that’s a loner and ostracized from his peers in the science community which is why it’s such a surprise when he’s tasked with PHM.

I’m all for headcanoning non-queer characters as queer, but I think there needs to be an understanding of the source material if you’re going to die on that hill.

It is never, never heavily suggested or implied that Ryland Grace is aroace/acespec. It’s suggested that he’s a loner and doesn’t have many friends or peers. There’s literally conversation between Grace and Rocky about how he used to have a “mate”, but she left him for someone else.

Make your headcanons, do whatever you want, but you have to respect the source material. Learn the rules before you break them.

In the universe where Ryland and Colt had a strained relationship pre accident & Hail Mary, do we think they contacted each other during the pandemic? Do we think that either just sat day after day on their phones, staring at the contact begging to talk?

Do we think Ryland, who is already suffering because he’s a hands-on learner and knows a lot of his kids are, takes breaks between classes with his hand hovering over the call button? And switches off the news whenever they talk about how “our connections are what get us through these unprecedented times”?

Do we think Colt, who is trying his hardest not to scream because he thrives around other people and misses Jody, thinks about texting Ryland? That he types something stupid like “hey lil bro just wanted to know if you wanted to hang out? Just kidding haha! we can’t! Seriously tho how are you?” and then he deletes it. And then types up a paragraph of an apology, and then deletes THAT. And then he throws his phone because fuck. He shouldn’tve been talked to that way. But he also shouldn’tve yelled like that. And he ruminates over it.

And now they both are stuck in their respective houses, clinging onto something they know will never happen.

Do you think Ryland thinks of that moment when he “has three hours”? How he wishes he manned up and just called? And how crushed he is when he thinks his twin brother is fudging dead?

Do we think Colt, through tears and numb disbelief, thinks that he failed Ryland? That him not texting, not reaching out because he knew Ryland would’ve had a hard time during the pandemic especially as a teacher, is what made the decision so easy? That the calls were his last resort and then he didn’t answer and now…Now he’s gone. Do we think he sees the tv show Ryland’s face and drops to his knees? Because fuck. He should’ve called. He didn’t. And he sees the missed calls, and he cries.

This is so random but Unus Annus and the Markiplier fandom are maybe one of the most close knit and best online communities I’ve ever been apart of. We’re super annoying and loud /aff sometimes but god. Like.

I think in a few years time, I’ll still be able to say it’s one of the best communities I’ve had the privilege of being in. There’s so much I could say, but. Yea. I love yall.
