SHE’S IN MY BONES ↠ F2F

Dani chuckled, shaking her head. So, not everything about Marley had changed. That was surprisingly nice to see. But it also sucked. Because Marley still being so insecure and down on herself was sad. She was gorgeous and likely as amazing as she had been when they were younger and she couldn’t even see it. “You were never such a thing, Marley. And you certainly more than average.” She countered, eyeing Marley carefully. She opened her mouth to protest Marley thinking she hadn’t even gotten special treatment, but she stopped herself, thinking better of it.
“It’s certainly wild.” Dani smiled, just happy to listen to Marley talk. “Yeah, my ex was… She was bitch. I made time for her but she also never came and saw me perform and she’d get mad when I couldn’t do what she wanted because I had a gig. Like, honestly I should have left her before all that, but I was trying to make it work.” She sighed with a shrug. “I mean, not say ugh, men, but… ugh, men.” She chuckled. “I’m still sorry to hear he did that, that he thought that. Like, how can you not love music? Was he even human?” The news that her sister hadn’t spent much time in the family home hurt, but was in itself a different kind of comfort. “I’m glad you and your mom were there for her. I would have stayed in contact but I knew if my parents found out they’d take it out on her and I couldn’t do that to her. I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s health and as for the how, because she has to. That’s something I’ve learned over the years. You push through the worst of things because you have no other choice.” Dani nodded at Marley’s question. “Yeah, of course. And tell the bitch she doesn’t get my number until my nose stops feeling so dried out from the whiskey.”
Marley couldn’t even stop herself from smiling, though at this moment her reaction was coupled with her cheeks reddening in the process. “Oh, well, gosh..thank you.” The younger woman sputtered out with a laugh. “So are you, ya know. I mean, you’ve always been above average.” The words had slipped off her tongue before she knew to stop them.
Marley listened intently and intentionally to Dani’s responses, noting her reactions and giving her her full attention. “God, that’s awful. Music is a huge part of who you are, not supporting you doing what you love makes for an awful partner. No, you’re right. Men suck. I haven’t really dated much since, I just wanted to go back to the drawing board but now that I’m a senior, I’ve sort of given up. Everyone either has a partner or is just sleeping around. I don’t really want to waste my time if it’s not going to be something real. “I know Sav understands, I know it was really hard but once the whole whiskey situation is resolved, y’all can chat that out. And I’ll tell Mama Rose you said hello. I know she missed you too.”
