Lakers' Trainer Gary Vitti on Steve Nash: "Right Now, He's A Green Light"
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash's injury struggles last season included back problems and hamstring issues. While he worked hard to get past that, Lakers trainer Gary Vitti confirmed Nash's health is looking up. "Right now, he's a green light," Vitti told Mike Trudell of Lakers.com, "things look better on July 31, 2014 than they did July 31, 2013." Nash appeared in 15 games last season averaging 6.8 points per game. He never played less than 40 games in his previous 17 seasons. The 2014-15 season will likely be his last.

Lakers Looking at Michael Beasley?
The Los Angeles Lakers are considering signing free-agent forward Michael Beasley and brought in the six-year veteran for a workout at their El Segundo, California, practice facility Wednesday, according to multiple sources. "[Beasley] looked very good and he has been working out," one source said. "A tiny rust from layoff, but [he] did a good job." The former No. 2 pick in the 2008 draft averaged 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game for the Miami Heat last season. While Beasley showed improvement from his previous season when he played with the Phoenix Suns, upping his shooting percentage from 40.5 to 49.9 percent and his 3-point percentage from 31.3 to 38.9 percent, he was out of Miami's rotation by the playoffs, appearing in just four of the Heat's 20 postseason games on their run to the NBA Finals. Beasley, 25, has already played for three teams -- Miami, Phoenix and Minnesota -- during his relatively short career. He has career averages of 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. This isn't the first time the Lakers have expressed interest in the 6-foot-10, 235-pound small forward. The Lakers attempted to trade for Beasley twice during the 2011-12 season, when he played for the Timberwolves, but both deals fell through, the second just minutes before the trade deadline expired. Beasley would give Los Angeles some added depth at the small forward position. Wes Johnson, who re-upped for another season with the Lakers this summer, is the only true 3 on their roster, with Xavier Henry, Nick Young and Kobe Bryant, and possibly even Julius Randle and Ryan Kelly, able to play out of position to fill the role. The Lakers currently have 12 players under contract, a number that will rise to 13 when they settle on terms with second-round draft pick Jordan Clarkson. By Dave McMenamin www.ESPNLosAngeles.com
Why Steve Nash should be a reserve
Steve Nash has only been able to give the Los Angeles Lakers an appearance in only 65 games since he was dealt from the Phoenix Suns in 2012. During the 2012-13 season, Nash collided with Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard, suffering nerve damage along with a fracture to his leg. This occurrence has led to many of the setbacks for Nash in his last few seasons. His addition to the Lakers was supposed to be the beginning of a Western Conference powerhouse along with Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, and Kobe Bryant. As a Sun, Nash was known as one of the league’s most productive point guards, winning the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award twice and even finishing with an average of 12.5 points and 10.7 assists per game at age 37. The Lakers were able to add both Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson at the point guard position. Both players are young and athletic, with Lin bringing a plethora of experience and ability to the team. Without the assurance that they can rely on Nash’s health, the Lakers will likely start Lin while allowing Clarkson to develop in his rookie season. Nash would be an ideal reserve, buying him reduced minutes and a chance to mentor some of the Lakers younger reserves. Playing in the NBA at 40 years old is a great reason to decrease your workload. Coming off the bench will preserve Nash if the Lakers can somehow reach the playoffs, and eliminate the pressure of proving his health. source: www.SI.com
