“I shall look forward to it, Farya. I’m sure Thérèse and Corbyn will enjoy it too, Ysabel should enjoyed being fussed over at least. I cannot even think of when we last spoke more than a few hurried words let alone sat down to eat and chat in calm.”

Her own children were safely at home in Austria, ensconced away in their household’s and surrounded by a legion of people to see to their needs. Even when home Claudia saw them less than she would have liked. She’d been successfully keeping her mind from dwelling on them too much until the little boy ran up to her. Many a person could say many a thing about Claudia, but not that she was cruel to children. She shook her head at the woman with a smile. “You’re forgiven, he is much too cute to be angry at.” She surveyed the other children and then the woman. “Are they all yours? They’re adorable.”
Her husband hadn't come with the french delegation but had insisted she bring the children. Let them see the world, make new friends, maybe start early in arranging matches for the eldest two. Mathilde her self was less hopeful but was glad of their company though now doubted her decision in bringing them. "Thank you" she said laughing at the women's compliment "He does take after his father in that" Thérèse had now poked her head out from folds of fabric and was looking around with large timid eyes. "Yes they are, that was Corbyn" she said gesturing a well as she could with a babe in her arms "And that's Thérèse and Ysabel"

Britta grinned and chuckled to herself as the child scrambled around her, swishing past her skirts. Seeing children playing in the gardens was something of a perfect scene. Her head turned as the woman called out to the child. “No, no he’s quite alright,” she assured her.
By now Corbyn was off at the somewhere else in the gardens poking at the reflecting pool. "I am sorry though" Mathilde insisted "He's not normally so wild, but a lick of air today and he's off. Probably just exited, he's been inside since the attack"

“Excitement should not lead to a loss of manners.” She raised an eyebrow at the woman. Maternal had never been a word to describe her; even after seven years as a mother. Children were a means to an end; and that end was security. “But I suppose the bother is over now.”
“That may well be the case for adults” she said abruptly. Children should live free from responsibility for along as they could, especially in these days marred by both the shadow of war and rebellion. “Yes it is” Corbyn had apologised sincerely and was now chasing birds.

“Are they not taught to behave?” She looked from the child to the woman. Milla’s own daughters were still in Belgium, she had not even debated bringing them along. The princesses’ governess kept them on a tight leave, expecting them to behave as anyone in their station should.
"Oh they are” Mathilde smiled “Corbyn is just a touch exited” she hadn’t let her children out their rooms since the attack and so this was their first time outside in a while. And Corbyn was never calm at the best of times. “If he’s caused you any bother, again I apologise”
Unlike many other women of her standing, Mathide was very much involved in her children’s up bringing. Walking into the gardens with Ysabel in her arms, Corbyn ran ahead as Thérèse clung to her skirts. “Corbyn. Ça suffit !” she shouted as he started bothering someone “I’m sorry” she said as she approached the person

He had been playing loudly, singing along, and a crowd had gathered around him, until he had been interrupted by one who had decided he was disturbing the peace, and ordered him to stop. “When did everybody get so boring that they can’t appreciate a song and dance?”
"Perhaps they'd rather you play a touch more sombre?” she reasoned, the mans joyous act and music clashed horribly with the death an destruction in the rest of the castle. But she saw it not her place to be the first to criticise him. “Though I agree with you on principle perhaps now is not the best time for that type of song?”

He was tired, wanted sleep but it wasn’t something his body was letting him do. So Jakub was here cleaning what he could. “Some have not been allowed to sleep since the attack.”
“That long?” she looked around at the devastation. In the tower they where allowed to sleep but what with the smoke and the noise and the constant threat it had been hard.

“I have no problem helping clean up. I made the mess after all.” There was so much work to be done around the castle, he could do this on his own and save someone a little time he figured.
“I’m not sure that is quite necessary” she said her voice still strained and raspy from the smoke “Though I’m sure the servants would appreciate it”

“I don’t know what to do,” Claudia said, the admission coming slowly and painfully. Her first words to anyone but the two guards currently helping man the scanty defences. Her eyes were almost painfully dry, she could taste the smell of smoke at the back of her throat. Claudia war more personally than some of the women here and had seen death more personally than she should have but this was something else. She’d bay for blood when it was all over, the fear coursing through her feeding a need for vengeance that had been birthed so many years ago during her brother’s death at the hands of their uncle. “All I know how to do is stay calm.”
“No one knows what to do” It was meant as a reassurance but it came of as more of a desperate cry of defeat. Her appearance would hardly help. Face pale from fear, but with red watering eyes from the smoke and in a state of half undress. This could not be happening. Not here, this was aplace of peace. She was a fool for thinking she’d be safe, not after what happened back in France. She drew in a deep breath trying to steel her self but it only caused a coughing fit “At least you have that much managed” she croaked her voice barely there.
