Naoya vs. Chōsō represents the broader “individual vs. collective” motif adjacent to the recurring conflict between the old and new generations.

Naoya—descendent of traditional nobility, a mascot of the current system’s elitism, the old generation—believes strength lies within the individual. He thinks cooperation with others interferes with and impedes upon strength.

Chōsō and the Death Paintings’ (comparatively) newer existences qualify them as belonging to the new generation, who believe strength is harvested and cultivated through relationships, through their collective identity.

Naoya is an actor of the larger institution, corrupt and antiquated, and he is weak, because he isolates and prioritizes himself; Naoya is weak, because he abandons and rejects human connection.

Chōsō, on the other hand, is strong because he never fights alone—not even in one-on-one battle. Chōsō is strong because he is always fighting alongside his siblings: His love for them, his loyalty for them.

In a battle that was never about strength in its strict physical capacity, this love enabled Chōsō to win.

Well this took longer than I wanted it to, oopsXD I (mostly) avoided fics that are on the first page or so of the tag, because anyone can find those ones easily enough. I also skipped ones I know you’ve read. So maybe some of these will be new to you! Anyway, here’s 5 dabihawks fics I have in my bookmarks!

1. Rearrange by  atomicmuffin 

Summary: At thirty year old, Hawks finds a baby and the paternal instincts he didn’t know he had lash out with a revenge. It wouldn’t be so bad if the kid in question was anyone but the product of the nightstand between a villain and Hawks’ ex. The one he helped throw in prison eight years ago. Awkward. 

Or: Todoroki Touya gets an unexpected gift from Life and Hawks just won’t fucking leave him alone.

Summary: “I can’t leave,” Hawks mutters. “I’m meeting someone.” “Yeah, you’re two seconds away from meeting the angel of death,” the voice scoffs, and suddenly it sounds loud and clear, no longer smothered. Hawks snaps his eyes open. He’s met with the sight of wrinkled, purple scarring and turquoise blue eyes a few feet away from his face. “Oh,” he says stupidly. “Dabi?” “Yes, you idiot—holy shit, your lips are blue. Gimme a sec, I’ve gotta make a phone call.”

Or: Hawks gets stuck in an unfortunate situation, nearly dies, and is rescued by the villain he’s not supposed to like. It’s complicated.

(Note: this one was written before Ujiko’s identity was revealed. It’s only a small part of the fic though)

3. a step to the left where nothing is right by  CanIHaveAHug

Summary: One known as Shimura Tenko massacred his family at five years old, but was taken in by the Hero Public Safety Commission and gifted the chance to redeem himself by dedicating his life and soul to heroism.One known as Hawks was a promising hero-in-training, but was pushed too far by too many, and swore to never let anyone dictate who he was ever again.One known as Dabi lost his childhood to a ruthless father, but found purpose in a man called All For One and his rage that grew into insatiable hatred.

This is a world where nothing is quite right.But you know what they say… the more things change, the more they stay the same.

(Note: this one is less explicitly Dabihawks but it makes up for that for being AMAZING. It’s still in progress too, so like. there’s time for it to develop into the shigadabihawks it promises;)

4. How to Win Back Your (Villain) Ex Boyfriend by Saccha

Summary: Arresting Dabi and putting him in prison has put quite a bit of strain on his and Hawks’ relationship, but Hawks has never been a quitter.

5. Dragon Head, Snake Tail by Lycaonpictus77

Summary: After being hit by a strange quirk while on the job as a pro hero, Touya finds himself in another world–one where he’s a disfigured villain who calls himself ‘Dabi’. He’d do anything to get back home, if he could just figure out how. Deep in the folds of the League of Villains, Touya learns what he can while trying to make this world a less awful place. Meanwhile, Dabi awakens to a life in which his family escaped Endeavor’s clutches and were allowed the time and space to heal.
