The differences in the way the show depicts Stiles’ and Liam’s bad actions toward Scott are very telling.
Liam, partially influenced by the Super Moon, almost kills Scott. He is shown to be very remorseful, his murder attempt is depicted as wrong, Scott is allowed to resent him. Liam feels super guilty and is worried about his relationship with Scott. He also kind of apologizes.
Stiles, stressed and angry because his father is dying, brutally attacks Scott even though he knows Scott was already badly injured. He doesn’t show any remorse about this later, he doesn’t even show concern about Scott’s well-being after learning that Theo killed him. Worse, him hurting Scott is depicted as understandable, and Scott is shown to be the one who needs to be forgiven. Scott isn’t allowed to resent Stiles, he rather has to miserably waits for Stiles to want to be friends with him again, as if he was the one who attacked Stiles. Stiles doesn’t worry, not even once, about the consequences assaulting Scott may have on their relationship.
This show is so biased in favor of Stiles it’s ridiculous. Liam and Stiles both do something terrible to Scott, and yet only one of them is held accountable for his actions. Stiles takes Scott and their relationship for granted, the show is written that way. Scott can never be angry at Stiles, or resent him. Stiles never has to bear the consequences of his terrible behaviour toward Scott.
The imbalance of their relationship was already obvious, but the fact that Liam and Stiles both hurt Scott in a similar way, and then the show “solved” it in two very different manners, makes it even more blatant.
They did not show a 10 minute fight scene with stiles trying to kill Scott, unlike Liam. Liam would have kept going until Scot was dead. Stiles did not go that far. Second, of course Scott won’t forgive Liam immediately, they’ve only knows each other for a short period of time and he tried to kill him, he’s trying to figure out who to trust after the whole theo incident. Which by the way, Scott believed him so fast without question that stiles would straight up murder someone. The whole reason Scott and stiles were fighting was because Scott didn’t believe stiles, so that makes Scott feel guilty…it all makes sense. Yes stiles attacks him because hello his father, his only family left, is DYING. It’s not an excuse, but I understand why he did it. AND OF COURSE THE SHOW FAVORS SCOTT AND STILES. They’re the basis of the show. Stiles should apologize for physically hurting but that’s it. In conclusion, Scott and Liam did NOT do similar things to Scott. Stiles shoved him a little and Liam literally almost killed him, and caused his “death” from Theo. Liam is shown as more remorseful, probably because what he did was wayyyyy worse.
“Which by the way, Scott believed [Theo] so fast without question that stiles would straight up murder someone.”
Again, Scott didn’t immediately believe Theo. When Theo told him that Stiles killed Donovan, Scott first said things like “It can’t be”. But Theo insisted and Scott is not stupid, he knew that Stiles was hiding something even if he didn’t say anything. And when he confronted Stiles, he asked what happened before judging him and completely believing that Stiles did the murder. He literally asked to Stiles “What happened ?”. And Stiles, instead of telling the truth, started getting mad at Scott and saying things like “Some of us has to get our hands a little bloody sometimes”, which made him seem guilty and just confirmed what Theo had been saying.
“Yes stiles attacks him because hello his father, his only family left, is DYING. It’s not an excuse, but I understand why he did it.”
You said it yourself, it’s not a fucking excuse. He didn’t have to take it out so violently on Scott. Scott himself had good reasons to be angry : his best friend didn’t tell him he killed someone, Hayden had just died, Liam had just tried to kill him, Theo killed him. He fucking died. That’s enough reasons to be as mad and stressed out as Stiles, and yet he didn’t start hitting Stiles, he didn’t take it out on Stiles. Y’all are always “understanding Stiles” and trying to see things from his point of view, but you never try to put yourself in Scott’s shoes and understand him too. I understand that losing your family is terrifying, BUT IT DOESN’T JUSTIFY PHYSICAL ASSAULT.
“AND OF COURSE THE SHOW FAVORS SCOTT AND STILES.”
You didn’t understand my post. The show doesn’t favor Scott and Stiles. The show favors only Stiles.
“In conclusion, Scott and Liam did NOT do similar things to Scott. Stiles shoved him a little and Liam literally almost killed him, and caused his “death” from Theo.”
Again, I don’t think you understood what I was saying. What Liam did was worse, but at least he was being influenced by a supernatural event, the Super Moon. Stiles wasn’t influenced by anything, he was just acting like a piece of shit. In my original post I parallel Stiles’ and Liam’s actions, not to say that they have the same gravity, but to say that the writers never allow Scott to resent Stiles, no matter how many bad things Stiles does. Comparing his actions to Liam was just to demonstrate how badly the show was biased in favor of Stiles. When other characters fuck up, they feel guilty and have to apologize. When Stiles fucks up he doesn’t feel guilty, doesn’t apologize, and the show presents his terrible behaviour as normal.
“Liam is shown as more remorseful, probably because what he did was wayyyyy worse.”
Liam can’t be shown as “more remorseful” than Stiles, because Stiles doesn’t feel guilty at all. That’s the problem. Days have passed since he attacked Scott and he still doesn’t feel guilty about hurting someone who was already injured. He didn’t even show concern when he learned that Theo killed Scott, he just didn’t care. Scott and Stiles’ relationship is imbalanced and abusive, and the show depicts it as if it was normal just for the sake of Stiles not having to apologize and own up to mistakes.
“Stiles shoved him a little”
“Stiles shoved him a little”
“shoved him a little”
Is that your definiton of “shoving someone a little” ??? Would you shove your friends around like this ? I sure hope you wouldn’t. Also, Stiles knew that Scott was already badly injured and wouldn’t fight back : attacking your friend who’s already hurt and won’t fight back is disgusting.
This fandom is so terrible oh my god.
